When i first got married i purchased a Hawes '51 Colt replica kit and a Defendrer 38 S&W converter cylinder kit from our local hardware store. Believe it or not i still have them both. I purchased a steel frame last year and will resurrect this little beauty.
That was in 1972. There was no warnings back then about brass frames although i bet i put about 500 rounds thru this brass converted frame with no problems. I was 20 then. At 67 i am a little more cautious now. I still purchase 38 S&W cartridges when i find them. I am going to reload them with real black and outside lubed Colt style bullets. Just mentioning as to the quality of the Hawes pistol which i really love the feel of.

1971 I was in Stuttgart on a weekend pass. This revolver was in a show window. It was marked for 30. That is 30 German marks. A mark was about $.25 American. Yeah Fred, I have been around a while, I can tell it every morning. One reason my tee pee has evolved into one that is self propelled.

$7.50 for a Hawes revolver???? Exactly how many decades ago did this purchase take place.
You couldn't buy a part ( sear, trigger, hammer, spring ) for $7.50
At that price, I would have bought 10 revolvers.
Five revolvers for each side. Just imagine that holster.
I may not be the fastest draw, but I would have the most shots.
Have a great day!
Fred

wow- that's what one would call a Chicago reload!
