I'm using the peep like before. Had to file a hump off front sight cause it was giving me the perception of two different front sight heights. Anyway I took a good rest today. Shot 1 in groups at 25 yards. I believe it can be better with thicker patches.1st pic shows 3 groups upper left 20 gr 3f,, upper right 25 gr 3f and best is lower left 30 gr 3f. Ignore lower right

Much better than last time don't you think .? Had a little bad luck. Loaded the fusil with Stout load fired,,felt Stout too. Didn't notice till got home. The tang on recoil pope a 3/8 in. Piece of wood out of stock. I made a piece and fitted it in. Looks ok but you you just gotta look at those scratch and dents everytime uou pick the gun up. Couple pics of range. It's a conservation club I joined. Usually there by myself.

Crow, that is almost a perfect square that popped out…what would be the chance. Hopefully you found it and glue it back in. What was your stout load??? In my .62 Fowler i’m shooting 60gr of 2F for plinking and woods walks. Even if i bump to 80gr it’s still comfertable to shoot.

I skim bedded the back of the breech and tang breech plug with Acra-Glas and left a hairline clearance at the back end of the tang. 120 grains of 2F behind a PRB didn't faze it. This why I glass bed. It's a little trick I learned when conserving Savage 1899s, they are notorious for blowing out and cracking behind the tang when the thin cheek wood gets soft from years of oil and all the recoil force gets transferred to the wood at the end of the rounded tang.

If I would l d have bedded tge breach area and added 2nd tang screw.
Worse b thing I'd I can't natch it well enough. Thought about red hot nail held close to the area I patched might get the stripes going through it.yep ianh
To late for me. Sure would like to make the patch less noticeable

Good idea. Maybe even an electric soldering iron? Practice on scrap first.

Blending it in with a little carbon black might help, too.

I covered up a LOT of black Acra-Glas with charcoal black on this total rebuild and refinish of a rotted stock:

Good job. I would have stained the backside to see how it matched up. Then flipped it over, installed it and filled the 3 sides (not the tang side) with a good wood filler then stained it. Probably would never even notice it.
