Any ideas about this? I can post more pictures, but this is the only markings I found on the rifle. It has a 38 inch b
No but interesting. Please post pictures of the whole rifle.
I thought the same thing after some research. I think it’s an old rifle that has just been carried through with modifications.Something fishy going on with this one. At first glance appears old, but I don't think it is. The lock is old, but isn't the original to this gun. The patch box isn't fitted well to the buttplate and the engraving doesn't have an old feel to it. Others things odd as well. Some parts old, some parts not so old.
Like I said to the other person, I think this is the case as well. I believe it start at life as original as anything, and was just updated/restored until I got it. Because it hung on a wall for at least 60 years until I picked it up. The old man who had it before I did said, it has been passed down and shot around the entire tri-state.I'd say it's heavily restored with extras added during restoration. Barrels been cut and nose cap replaced and held with a hinky brass screw. Buttplate is original but the cut out for the patchbox lid is for another lid. The hunters star is an add on too.
