short starter, loading block and tin

I recently finished a .25 tree rat rifle and needed some small caliber supplies. Made a short starter from some leftover ramrod and deer antler, a loading block from some maple scrap and "re-purposed" an Altoids tin into a container to hold those small patches.

    Sika Hunting on Assateague Island

I was just notified that I won one of the lottery hunts on Chincoteague NWR in December. I would love for anyone with any info or experience with these animals to post some info or tips on what I should expect or do to track these mini-elk down. My slot is also one of the ones where I can take...

    TV Manufaturing

Has anyone ordered a lock from Tennessee Valley Manufacturing? The reason I ask is that the lock price for a small Siler is much lower then anyone else and I was wondering if they were inferior quality or just priced better? Thanks, Bob

    GPR rebuild

After this years flintlock season in PA I decided to refinish my GPR while I waited for parts to arrive for my next build. I reshaped the forestock, cheekpiece, lockplate, nose of the comb and removed the perch belly. I also added some traditional iron sights and refinished the hardware with...

    Finished First Horn

Well, I finally finished my first horn. It was a learning experience and I wanted to thank everyone who gave pointers and suggestions along the way. I dedicated it to my son, who loves to hunt and fish and is my outdoors companion. The map is of our county from an 1800 map I found at the...

    Working on first horn

Well, I finally got around to working on my first horn that I bought last year at Dixons. I am in the process of doing a little scrim work on it to try and dress it up a bit. Doing this I really found out that maybe the eye doctor was right...it's about time for bifocals. The close in work is...

    Permalyn vs Tru Oil

I am at the point on my first build where I have the stock sanded and have 3 coats of stain applied and it is finally the color I want. I have both Permalyn sealer and Tru Oil and was wondering which to use. Are there any major drawbacks to either that I should know about? I have been...

    PA late season

The late season in PA starts the day after Christmas and I will be out after a nice 10-pointer that eluded me all bow season and regular firearms season. Is anyone else planning on being out for the late PA season? It is a nice, usually quiet, time in the woods after all the orange crazies are...

    here piggy piggy!

Well, Pennsylvania has officially removed the protection on the feral pigs in the state. There are a few protected counties in the western part of the state where they are doing "offical" removal programs but the rest of the state is wide open outside of spring and fall turkey and deer season...

I went to Fairfax, VA this weekend with my wife who had to attend a conference for work. While she sat in class, I went to the NRA Museum and took LOTS of photos of the muzzloaders. Everything from matchlocks to wheel-locks to flinters. Lots of pics to look at with some very close up details...

    Filing and polishing brass

I have heard all the stories about how much of a P.I.T.A. it is to take a cast brass item, such as a triggerguard, and file and polish it. Well, after almost 6.5 hours of filing and polishing, I am SLOWLY getting close to what I want my triggerguard to look like. I am going to go to 400...

    Northeast PA Blackpowder club

I would love to get together with an existing club, if there is one, or start one in this part of the state. I know there seems to be an abundance of blackpowder enthusiasts in this part of the state. If you know of a club, or would like to get together to start one...please let me know. Not...

    Drilled hole crooked...

OK...newby builder problem. I drilled the top hole on the buttplate slightly crooked and when I screw it in the buttplate pulls away from where the comb on the buttplate meets the stock. What can I use to fill the hole in the wood and let harden and then re-drill the hole straight?

I received a can of Elephant Brand powder in 3f from a friend who can't shoot anymore due to an injury. I have never used this brand before and was wondering how it compared to the Goex that I usually used. Any opinions on it would be appreciated. thanks
