What are your thoughts on this barrel/breach fitment?

I ran into this on GB a while back. Just window shopping. It was a Lyman GPR fully built rifle. I held off posting until the item sold. What would you do? Leave it as is? Try to tighten them up? It's the first I've seen this on any of the rifles I've looked at. If I was the seller I probably...

    .589 Minies?

I ran into some Minie balls and some other conicals and they measured .589 using the calipers that were there. Kind of large for an 1861, aren't they? Mine shoots .575 if I recall. What gun might that have been used in? There were balls and about 100 tubes with premeasured charges in them. A...

    Changing POI in SxS

Lets say that my Pietta percussion 12ga does not shoot where I point it. One barrel shoots right and one barrel shoots low. Enough to where I want to regulate the barrels to get them at least closer to hitting where I want. I've done some internet searching and there are ways to accomplish this...

Need a little banter on a maybe purchase

I have an opportunity to get a 1990's Lyman GPR described as 99% and with a shiny bore. And I *know* the seller via another forum so I'm sure he's on the up and up. The price is today's pricing. Actually, he said it was lower than he paid last year at a ML shop for it. He knew I had been...

A day on the range with the new Lyman TR

As I mentioned yesterday in the What MLing stuff are you doing thread, Yesterday's first time shooting the new Lyman Trade Rifle did not go so well. After the first two shots I was chasing holes. The trigger was horrendous. What was even more horrendous was the condition of the lock after I...

Shooting the Pedersoli KY .32. Good day!

I finally made it out shooting again. It's been so hot and humid and thunderstorms I've talked myself out of it a few times when I shouldn't have. I have some guns I've been tweaking and I need to get them dialed in. So I endeavored to persevere as we like to say ;) First time shooting Swiss. I...

Movie gun. Aussie BP revolving percussion rifle

I just watched The Legend of Ben Hall on Prime. I'm having a hard time locating any information on this rifle used by the law... not sure if they are police, army or some kind of constable. The movie also featured the Tranter Revolving pistol and rifle. That rifle of course does not have a...

    Flint or Frizzen problem?

I was shooting my new-to-me TC Hawken today. Really fast lock time... for a while. It had the TC two edged flint in it and I noticed it was hitting way low on the frizzen. Maybe just 1/4" up from the pan. I'm guessing the ignition timing slowed as the spark got weaker from using the flint. So I...

    Thompson Center questions

I was at the gun shop yesterday and saw a nice .50 TC, very nice, flintlock. I think the barrel length said 28", it had double set triggers, half stock, browned barrel, adjustable rear, brass bead front and a cheek rest, what looked like a fiberglass rod... I guess I'm curious of the model (if...

Swapping out front sight in a full stock ML ?

Has anyone done this without removing the barrel from the stock? I would have no problem changing out the rear sight with the barrel in the stock. It's much meatier back there. But the front it seems I could be opening myself up to problems... maybe not with the brass muzzle cap. ?

    Cleaning the .32 Kentucky. oops!

I'm re-doing my Pedersoli KY and somewhere along the way the bore picked up some rust. Even though I oiled it before stripping and putting a French gray finish on it. Maybe the heat from running the barrel under hot water did something to the oil. Anyway, I'm swabbing away with .32-.40 cleaning...

    Knife Modification

I took my Condor Hudson Bay knife, seen here with the wood grips "aged". And tried my hand at turning it into a more realistic looking HBC knife. I just finished the sheath. Patterned off of one I saw online. Except I used copper rivets and stained mine walnut instead of black. I don't...

Shooting the Pedersoli Indian Trade Musket smoothbore

I finally took the new musket out to shoot today after altering the finish to suit me (in another thread) and polishing the heck out of the lock. The trigger still has a lot of creep and is not a light pull by any means, but I enjoyed the heck out of shooting it. It was smooth and it was fast...

    Pedersoli Indian Trade Musket questions

I just took possession of this gun I bought from Dixie. The description said it came with a brass front sight, but it appears to be an iron sight and is painted brown like the rest of the barrel. Which was a pretty shoddy job. No big deal as I planned to strip it anyway. But could there be brass...

    Comparing two Pedersolis. Insight?

I'm browsing and was looking for the differences between these two, other than what the description states. OK, different caliber, different front sight, full stock on one, unidentified wood on that one, too... An inch difference here or there... $400+ difference between the two? I'm not seeing...

An hour at the range with the new Traditions TN flinter

This was a long time coming. What with the weather and other things. I almost didn't get in my planned range session today. But this rifle needed shot. Probably the longest I've waited without shooting a new gun. I bought this used about a month ago. $375 shipped. Good deal. 50cal Traditions...

How is a short starter held together?

I have a ramrod for my Kentucky pistol that looks like a long short starter. Ball end with a brass stub to get the ball started and a ramrod with a brass end that is threaded so I can use it for cleaning, too. I would like to make it a couple inches shorter. So how are these made? Is the brass...

    I need a cartridge box

Can someone point me in the direction of a brown cartridge box with white-ish fabric strap for my Brown Bess that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I bought one off Fleabay from the only seller that listed they were from NY in their description and he ended up being from Pakistan like the others...
