Any American style rifle kits similar to an English Sporting Rifle?

Thank you all for the replies and information. I'll give some thought to my options, research some more, armed with the new information and leads you all have given me, and eventually make a decision. I'm probably a couple of months away from making any purchase. Thank you again, everyone!

Any American style rifle kits similar to an English Sporting Rifle?

I’m interested in building a shorter flintlock rifle in .50 or .54 than the Colonial Rifle kit by Jim Kiebler I built last Fall. One kit I’ve seen on-line, that I like several aspects of, is Jim Chambers’s English Gentlemen’s Sporting Rifle (Model RK-12). I like that the full length stock, and...

That sounds pretty nice, Logcutter. I do love PA, and plan to hunt there for years to come. I love that you have a flintlock only season there. I wish other states would do the same. Truth be told, my buddies and I only saw one other hunter the whole time we hunted in 2A.

Kibler 50 cal Colonial rifle kit

I completed my .50 Kibler Colonial Rifle just a couple of weeks ago, and I successfully took a button buck with it just last week (2 days after finishing the build). The kit is absolutely amazing, and of incredibly high quality. I a, very pleased with how mine came out, considering it was my...

Thank you, Christophero! My fiends in PA keep talking about heading to Ohio for a hunt sometime. Maybe next year. When I asked how the hunting is in Ohio, the answer was, “Nobody comes from Ohio to PA to hunt.” I love bow hunting, and I’d say flintlock with PRBs is equally fun and rewarding.

Thank you, Eric. I let him know, and I’ll do a bit of researching to try to point him in the right direction.

30Coup, yes they are shockingly long and in the tight stuff it was sometimes a handful. Finding a hard case for airline travel that it would fit in was also no easy task. It’s a beautiful kit, though, and I look forward to hunting with it out West where most of the places I hunt are much more...

A couple of firsts for me...

I have stalked in and around Blair Athol several times over the years with friends, staying at Kindrochet Lodge, and also up in Applecross. I love Scotland, and I try to join my friends each year, but more often than not work gets in the way. Red Stag are magnificent beasts.

A couple of firsts for me...

I recently completed a Colonial Rifle Kit by Jim Kibler in .50 - well almost completed it, anyway, as a I still have yet to finish the lock. I wanted to hunt with it in PA for the late season Flintlock, though, so I chose to finish everything on the rifle except the cleaning up of the casting...

    A question about oil finishing

I just want to thank everyone for the great tips and help. I finished my rifle build, and I learned a lot in the process. It’s certainly far from perfect, and I now know many ways to improve on my next build through the experience of building this first one. Oh, and there will definitely be a...

    A question about oil finishing

Well I put the first heavy coat on, and I see that it gets soaked into the stock, so for about 20 minutes, I applied more to areas that started to show dry spots, and I realize it’s probably best to not wipe off any excess, it rather let it soak in for 24 hrs. It already looks amazing! I can...

    A question about oil finishing

Thank you, Don and Dave! Great tips! Don, with regard to putting on a heavy coat especially for the first coat, how long do you leave that on before rubbing off the excess, or do you just let the thick coat soak in without removing any excess? How long did you wait between the coats of oil...

    Hi from Pasadena, CA

Hello and Merry Christmas everyone! I'm new to Muzzleloading, although I've been shooting modern rifles, pistols and all sorts of bows for a long time. I shot my first flintlock muzzleloader last year in PA while visiting a friend in PA, and the bug bit! So after researching a bunch, I...

    A question about oil finishing

First off, Merry Christmas, everybody! I am new to the forum and ML in general. This is actually my first post. I'm nearing completion of a Jim Kibler Colonial rifle in .50, and I have just used Aquafortis on the stock after prepping it, and used a heat gun to blush it. It brought out a nice...
