    62 ca patch

WOW, I shoot 60 grns 3f target, and 80 grns 3f hunting. Both smoothbore and rifled have killed deer at 50 yds plus or minus without issue. Seems to me your using too much powder.

    Tulle fusil de chasse

Tracks barrel is too heavy.. if your building one, get larry zorns barrel. GREAT Barrel, and light too. Hardware is up to you. Track, or rifle shop is my 1st choice.

    Sitting Fox Kits

Built the club butt fowler, one of my favorite guns. Barrel is a good quality 20 ga smoothie, Re davis large trade lock, brass is good, stock is plain maple, a little soft, but ok. Ray is a good honest guy, you won't be dissapointed.

    shooting a Buccaneer SB

Got two club butts, and love them both, also have a Tulle, 2 1st mod. bess's,and have had other fowlers, for carrying and shooting the club butt is a great choice. If you are looking for historical accuracy, the club butts were mostly in new england, the french had a bucaneer club butt looking...

    Do Nessmuk formulas work?

Adirondack passage is a great book. It kept me reading till the end. But I have a interest in light weight traveling as well as Adirondack interests.

    Need help - Frizzen

I have polished the toe or cam of the frizzen with my honing stone I sharpen my knives with, and also polished up the spring where the toe rides with really fine sandpaper. This has seriously helped my ignition on all my guns. You can also smear a thin layer of grease on the spring where the...

    Boy Scouts?

As a matter of fact we have eaten ants on a campout. Kind of lemony tastin. I got a copy of the 1911 handbook, and things were definitly better before lawyers and such. Reenacting "practices" definitly have a place in BSA and my experiences show the boys love it, and it is practical useful...

    Boy Scouts?

I too am a district Comm. member, and am aware of potential "issues" and ALWAYS practice safe scouting. I was referring to things like setting the "deadfalls" as they aren't quite a scout like activity. We also took a 2 day New York Hunters safety course. Hunting is NOT sanctioned or endorsed by...

    Boy Scouts?

Been a scoutmaster for 8 yrs now. I teach the boys F&I stuff, and I can say "we have the best most minimilistic troop there is in our council (Hudson Valley). My Motto is "Fire Knives and water" If you got them the Boys will have fun. The best things they seem to like are True flint and steel...

type of wool for a shirt.

Measure your linen shirt that fits best, leave x-tra inch or so for seam, and figure yardage from there. I would use the same "pattern" as your linen shirt. They are basically squares and rectangles. a commercial pattern is not necessary for a simple shirt.

type of wool for a shirt.

Broadcloth is thicker, and probably better suited for a wesket or coat. I would use a lighter flannel for an undergarment. Wm Booth Draper has a good assortment of quality products and examples of their uses.

    Who carries a time piece?

Hi Spence I too carry the JAS watch, have replaced the battery once in 5 years, while not perfect, better than cell phone. Watches did indeed have a chain or teather of some sort, but were carried in a waist band pocket in your breeches. Not commonly in a wesket pocket like seen in the 19th...

    2F vs 3F

makes sense to me. Like Mike I don't change my loads either. Without getting too technical there has to be a conversion chart somewhere that tells how many grains of 3f per lb. oz or whatever, and the same for 2f.

    Who carries a time piece?

I believe I have read that common soldiers and militia, during the rev war had a pocket timepiece, as there were many complaints of them being "stolen" by fellow soldiers. A while ago on another forum there was extensive documentation of this, and it was determined that many, not all, had...

    Cooler free cooking...?

Barley and mushrooms, fresh picked, or store bought in those little baskets, or even dehydrated and a beef bullion cube or two cooked in a boiler or trade kettle makes for a fine meal. There is also split pea with crumpled up bacon (make it crispy and it will carry for days)and potato and onion...

I know, I ain't like I used to be either :rotf:

    strike anywhere matches.

I think they were "Ohio Blue Tip" matches when I used to "play" with them.

    Buck and Ball for Bear???

Buck and ball is for smoothbore, if put in rifle the spiral effect will cause the "buck" to be thrown outward and useless, and probly also through off your main ball.

    Breech plug face scrapers

I usually scrape before I swab, so the swabbing gets to the breech plug, not sure if right or wrong, just how I do it. When done I shine a light down the bore to reflect off the breech plug to see the bore, I dont stop till really reflective. I'll be at fort fred also , mabe we'll cross paths.
