    T/C Hawkens under rib thread???????

Its been a long time since I re-barreled one of those, but for some reason 5-40 comes to mind. I could be wrong.

    Kibler Colonial double-set trigger

I enquired about doing that with the woods runner, Jim suggested a single set trigger would probably a better option. I assume the colonial is similar.

SOLD Reduced! Blue Capote Size: Large

Very nice ! If only that were a little smaller as in a "large" size.

    Stripping Jax Black

Although I've never dealt with those darkening products, A can of automotive brake parts cleaner will probably blast that stuff off. I use it to clean and degrease my steel parts prior to browning. If that don't work, the thick blue "Sno-bowl" toilet bowl cleaner will. That stuff will remove...

Kibler SMR & LMF Honey Maple eye candy

I think that looks awesome! I've been wanting to do a rifle in straight honey maple for a long time. I just picked up a Kibler SMR with that type of figure for the sole purpose of trying that color out. I was thinking of using a little tannic acid on it first to get a little darker contrast for...

    protecting bare steel

I usually brown all my parts on my builds but would like to build one or two (or more) leaving the lock and barrel left alone. What do you use to protect your flintlocks with on locks and barrels left in the white/bare steel? I know some like the metal parts to patina. I like keeping things...

    Brasso

Yes it can. Brasso is abit abrasive. I have an older T/C Hawken that the finish got abit hazy around the patch box because I was too lazy to remove it and polish it. I'm one of those guys that likes my brass untarnished. So now I take off the brass parts to polish them. (If possible)Or you need...

There's GOTTA be a way to get an even browning finish on a b

How many coats you put on so far? Are you carding after 2 or three coats? It should even out after awhile.

    CVA Hawken (Spain) Help

Yup, clean out screw incorrect. It's my guess that its also probably too long and the nipple is bottoming out on it. Then it was cranked in there too hard and screwed up the threads. I've had a few cvas that didn't have a fly. Had to do alittle work on the tumbler to make it work right.

Muzzle loaders builders supply has them if you don't care for making 'em.

    Stupid Stock Question

Not a stupid question. I'm sure stocks have been made of oak as well many others than what you listed. Stocks of maple, cherry and walnut etc. are a tighter grain and make for a nicer stock for working with, finishing, durability etc. Oak is a very porous open grain wood. Could be used, just not...

    browning the lock

Not a problem. I've done several with excellent results. Remove all the parts and take the plate, hammer (cock) and screw and put them in a container with some sno-bowl toilet bowl cleaner. Maybe alittle scrubbing with a stiff brush. It will take the bluing right off. (use gloves in a well...
