    Tip Curtis's Locks

Tip couldn't make it to Dixon's this year. Some kind of illness to the guy that helps him I was told. I bought a Jim Chambers Edward Marshal kit instead. Anybody ever build one? Any tips for a beginner?

    Tip Curtis's Locks

I'm thinking about buying one of Tip Curtis's kits this weekend at Dixon's Fair. Does he put together his own locks, or use one of the commercial lock brands? Thanks

    Movie "Gettysburg" and Lee's eccentrics

Looks like a Springfield to me in the movie. Do you think Hollywood really went to the trouble to arm the actors with the same rifles actually issued to the regiment at the time of the battle? Were the other weapons used by the 20th in the movie Enfields?

    Movie "Gettysburg" and Lee's eccentrics

Is there a muzzle loader question or comment in your post or is it just political reflection? Fine movie, I've watched it many times, but its Hollywood! The casting of the old Irish corporal makes up for the mis-casting of R.E.Lee and others. Not because of his politics, but because of the...

    Welcome Mathewson Rifle

I just followed one of Swampy's posts to pictures of a fowler that Roy made, and it led me to the Antiques Roadshow site where William Guthman was appraising a rifle and horn made by Welcome Mathewson. It belonged to a women's great-great-great-great-grandfather about 1812. All I can say is wow...

    Shipping Insurance Problems?

A gunsmith friend of mine gets a lot of deliveries from delivery companies (UPS etc.) and does not have good things to say about insurance claims he has had to make with them. They seem to always have an excuse why they are exempt from paying the claim. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

    Dangerous Custom Build

Guys, this was a business proposition. Try to find a way to work it out. Is there "someone" you both respect who could act as a mediator? There should be a way out of this, so both of you can walk away and leave it behind. (not a reply to Fred)

    Jim Chambers Flintlock kits

I just purchased a Chambers Edward Marshall Kit at Dixon's Gun Fair. It came with the $50 upgrade stock. It looked like a nice piece of wood, but when I got it home and wetted it down, the nice close curl really jumped right out. Very pleased, nice folks. Worth a few extra $'s.

    Sliding Safety on Flintlock

I just viewed a video about a Jaeger Rifle that had a sliding safety built into the flintlock. I wonder if any PA/KY rifles ever had this feature?
