    Brown Bess Accuracy

Hi All, Took the Pedersoli Bess out to 100 yds. .015 patch, .715 round ball, 80 gr ffg. At a 2ft square target, from a bench rest, anyone venture a guess on how many shots out of 10 hit paper?

    Pedersoli Brown Bess

Hey All, I'm thinking of making this my first flintlock. I'm partial to military replicas for historical reasons. Any opinions on this musket as a first choice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

    .577 Enfield Minie

I've been using a .575 minie' in the Enfield, the same as I use in the .58 Sringfield. Accuracy is phenomenal but I find I have to swab the bore after 4 shots because things are so tight. Is there a minie' in the .572, .570 range that would be a better fit for the Enfield?

    Continental Army Rifle

I'm looking to buy a flintlock rifle that would be representative of the military rifle used by the Americans during the Revolution. If that is too obscure, the War of 1812 would work. Looking for a rifle, not a musket. Any suggestions?

    Competition and Replacement Powders

When competing in BP shoots is it specified which powders are okay to use? Let's say at Friendship or in the N-SSA, are all powders allowed?(except smokeless, of course)

    Triple Seven

Hi, Shooting my 1863 Springfield .58 replica with FFg Goex when a shooter comes up and tells me to try Triple Seven. Never heard of it. Have used pyrodex. He says it replaces blackpowder and cleans up better. Also, doesn't smell. Anyone know anything about Triple Seven? Is it a viable...

    .58 Paper Cartridges

Hi, Can anyone direct me to a resource that explains how to make a .58 minie ball paper cartridge? I want to replicate as close as possible the actual paper cartridges used in the Civil War. Thanks.

    Melting Lead Safely

I'm awaiting my Lee Lead Furnace and I'm reading of all the dangers associated with lead fumes. Does casting conicals necessarily have to be done outdoors? How do most of you melt lead without the risks? Are masks employed? Fans? Thanks in advance.

    Fouling

I shot my Mississippi Rifle today and noticed after 10-15 shots I had to swab the bore. If I didn't, I could not seat the minie all the way.Two questions: 1. What did the soldier do in the heat of battle? Did he swab? Does 10 shots sound historically accurate? 2. If the...

    Which Navy?

C'mon boys help me out. My birthday is right around the corner and I'm looking to get a Uberti Navy. But which one? I currently own an 1851 Navy from CVA. .36 caliber but a .375 ball will stick in the charging plunger, therefore I need .380 balls. Also, with this revolver, the retaining spring...

    Musket Caps

I recently purchased winged musket caps that were labeled," for reenactor use." Now I don't hunt but I do alot of range work. Is there a performance issue here I should be aware of? Thanks.

    Funnels

Is it necessary to use brass/ aluminum funnels when transferring blackpowder from one container to another? I seem to have read somewhere that plastic funnels are hazardous.

    Accuracy- Part 2

A couple of months ago I started a thread on accuracy with my Civil War rifles. I've reached a conclusion on the subject which most of you have probably known for some time. After experimenting with powder charges, lubes, lubing bases, lubing side grooves, ad infinitum, I finally came to the...

    Quality Military Replica

Have shot percussion for years and I'm looking for a flinter--first one. My interest is in a military replica of good quality. Period of interest would range from French and Indian War up to 1812. American, British, French. No specific caliber required. I'm a left-hander. Let's keep it fair...

Groups would be 6x6 FEET!! I get out my softer lube of a cream type consistency and also fill the base...

    What size roundball?

Hi all. It's been so long since I've shot a patched round ball in my .58 Springfield I have no idea what size roundball to order. I have both .010 and .015 patches. The question--what size roundball to order? Thanks.

    Hammer Blowback

Trigger is pulled and the hammer falls on the cap, the rifle fires but the hammer blows off the nipple ending up in the half-cock position. Any ideas on what's happening?

    Pyrodex dilemma

Shooting again after a long layoff I'm just about finishing off my ffg and fffg powder. Sitting on the shelf are half canisters of 2f and 3f pyrodex. I only shoot percussion. Should I shoot off the pyrodex or get rid of it and order some more blackpowder? Charles

    Stapler

This may be a little off the wall but before I proceed I'd like some input. I made paper cartridges circa 1863, twisted the ends, tied it off with some floss. Worked fine. Now I want to make paper tubes with powder loads except for expediency's sake, I want to fold the ends over and staple them...
