TC Renegade .54 Flintlock

Just got my first Muzzleloader for $100 at a local gun shop. They didn’t know anything about it. Anyone able to give me any info

I want to add, I think it’s a Renegade based on what I could find, but I am open to better information

I would say you got an outstanding bargain if the bore is good! I have a TC Renegade caplock in .54 caliber and it is a good shooter, and a good deer gun. The set triggers work very well, and you can adjust it so that if you just TOUCH the front trigger, the gun will go off, which makes it good for target shooting and careful shots at game.

If the barrel is in good shape, you got one heck of a deal!. Congrats on the new gun.

First of all you did very well with the price and it looks to be in very good shape. The first thing to do is to check to see if it may have a load in the barrel. The easiest way to do that is to take the ram rod and drop it down the bore and mark the rod where the muzzle is on the ram rod. Then lay it along side the outside of the barrel and see if the end of he rod ends at the breech (flash hole).

The Thompson Center abbreviated on most forums as TC or T/C is a good replica and I believe you are right it looks like a Renegade to me. If the bore is as clean as the outside all the better.

I shined a light in from the breach and I can see it up at the other end. So it should be clear, Weirdly the rod it came with stops short of the Breech

I am unsure of what you are talking about, but I would like to remind you that April fools day was yesterday.

Lol. No joke here
Drop a battery down the barrel to the bottom and then take the pic. The flash will bounce off the flat shinny part of the battery and Illuminate the bore nicely

Based on the fact it does not have a brass patch box nor any brass furniture it IS a Renegade

I am sure by now that you have verified the rifle is not loaded.

@Bjodonnell123, here is a link to the T/C manual. This will help you with most of the information you need to know about traditional T/C firearms. However, do ignore all the irrelevant information on seasoning the bore. You can't season modern gun steel as one can season our cast iron skillets. Bore Butter is not your best protection of your bore after cleaning. That screw in the side of the snail with the pan is not a clean out screw. Well, you have a flint lock so the clean out screw does not apply.

It appears that you have the old style T/C flint lock. Some have poor geometry that is hard on flints. Here is a link to pictures of both styles and discussions on how to get improvement.

The Lyman hammer is a close replacement for the T/C hammer with slightly better geometry if a T/C new style hammer can't be found. RMC Ox-Yoke has the replacement parts. First of course, verify that you have good sparks from your lock before buying any replacement parts.

Even if th barrel is toast the lock is worth a c note

No unfortunately.
They said they had it on consignment and didn’t know anything about it. They actually listed the model as black. I got super lucky

I'll give you $150.00 for that piece of junk right now.
