I have an 1849 .31 and its great only issue is THERE ARE NO NIPPLES AVAILABLE TO BE HAD. I needed one and had to have it custom made. Other than that I am happy.

The are older ones seem to be better quality and I have read that the quality slipped some in the later years before they went out of business. I have an older 1860 and it is a very nice revolver.

I have two Armi San Marco percussion revolvers. One is a 1851 Navy repro and it is one of the more accurate and reliable cap and balls I own. The other is a 1849 Baby Dragoon with a 5 inch barrel and it worked sporadically and was always breaking something. I regulated it to shadow box status. They were both made sometime in the late 80s if I remember correctly.
I know old thread, Wooof can o worms the can o worms I opened when I started my Armi San Marco research, Cimarron purchased them among a S/W Schofield law suit. (1999-2001) Uberti Parts kind of cross over but do need some fitting. Originally San Marco opened in the 1960ish out of business mid 1970ish respawned round early 1980ish pretty bad quality control (Like Uberti and Pietta Today). But the S/W Schofield, law suit started to sink them and Cimarron stepped up and purchased them, closing the doors. Much Like Smith and Wesson and Thompson Center Marlin/Remington and a few of the others here and there through out the years. OH yes Thompson Center is out of business if ya got one ya might wanna snag a breech plug or two just to have on hand.
I recently got a Uberti, nothing at all wrong with the quality (granted the Arbor is short but that was expected). Not sure if that falls into quality or stupidity of some kind. Timing is perfect which says a lot about the guts.
Equally I recently got a Pietta. Also nothing wrong with it. Again timing is perfect.
I was given an ASP NMA, its timing was definitely off but the bolt had been mucked with. I was able to modify a Pietta bolt and it works. The file work was on the bolt end not the plow handles. I later got a Uberti bolt that looked a lot more like the ASP bolt (again on the bolt end there is a very definite difference between the two with the ASP resembling the Ubertti). That bolt did not work and my filed on one works perfectly.
The ASP action is as slick as a S&W.
The Ubertti is very impressive as its smooth.
All the Italian operations have folded and been bought out etc. If you want modern quality, there is always ROA on auction site of your choice. Granted the timing on mine is off just a bit. Darn $600 guns just ain't what they used to be.
