The left is pushing the stop eating meat agenda. This is another way for them to “take away” our hunting freedom. Like the backyard gardening BS and the cow flatulence BS. Cwd is probably a real thing, I don’t doubt that, but they will use it to their advantage any time they can, just like the jab

One major spreader is feeding deer which many people do so they can watch them. Same with baiting, anything that brings them together can be a point of infection.
This is what I remember going back 25 plus years here in NY. Warnings and I am sure now rules about feeding deer especially corn. Baiting and such have been illegal here for ever.

Gotta wonder how on earth a single deer has survived at all, in places where corn feeders the size of a stationwagon are legal, and EVERYbody uses them........

My main takeaway from this thread is my lowered opinion of Newsmax. I thought they were better than that. Maybe no longer. Maybe they've gone the way of Fox. Anyway, just due to circumstances: their changes in no more real-time free streaming news content on their Apple TV App unless you've got a provider subscription, I don't watch them anymore. OAN is my only go-to news source, though keeping in mind they're pretty narrowly focussed on the conservative side of viewpoints, at least I can see they're not engaging in false narrative fear-mongering.

If they refused to report it on any basis, wouldn't they be engaged in the same type of censorship that so much of the MSM is engaged in. Journalists should be reporting without self appointing (or being appointed) as arbiters of the truth.

Newsmax reports. We see a link to it. A lively discussion ensues. The participants and nonparticipants (those who read but don't post) have food for thought.

Just seems like Newsmax is doing their job.

Most likely if you hunt in an area that's had CWD and you've been successful especially more than once then you've probably already eaten it. If you've had a deer cut up by a butcher then your deer meat was cut by contaminated knives and run through a grinder where contaminants were present. We bone all meat and stay away from brains, spinal cord etc. and eat deer.

I know plenty of people that do as well. I’ve even brought them some elk liver from some of my elk. But personally, I’ve never been that hungry myself.

Everybody to their own thang.
Parents, aunts and uncles were rural products of the Depression. Nothing edible was not eaten. Neither powder nor cartridges were cheap. But one good shot could yield lots of protein.
You did not whack a chicken's head off for the table without
contemplating egg production.

Please read the title again. No, they're not "just reporting". They're sensationalizing. Has no part in even-handed reporting of fact. It's how news outlets have learned to get views and reads. It's because journalism has been infected with entertainment. These days you can hardly tell the two apart. Though I grant you Newsmax much less infected than most MSM. They don't have to decline reporting anything; I agree that's censorship; they have to adjust HOW they report. When I was reading news on the air I could make a report of a two-car no-injury fender-bender at the main intersection downtown sound like a major disaster just by the words I chose, how I chose to emphasize them, and the tone of voice I used. Reporting is supposed to be just a conveyance of fact, not an attempt to get listeners' and readers' emotions aroused. Like I said, read the title of the article again. It's sensationalist.

Yep! We have boned everything, forever. Also do not see any sense in freezing bone.

Life brings them together. Walk the woods in cold rain and you will find them yarded up and bedded down in groups.

I agree but when they are feeding together especially off the ground there's a considerable sharing of spit and the prions survive readily in and on the ground. They last for years. So, a feeder operating in the same location for years goes way beyond the head count of deer bedding together in the rain. Ultimately the exposure of the ground to infected animals and the exposure of animals to the prions left behind might number in the thousands over time.

Sure they are. They reported opinions of people outside the news business. There's no requirement that Newsmax must deliver an opposing opinion. Are they in any way even qualified to do so? If you see sensationalism by the "scientists" (I sure do) doesn't mean it's attributable to the messenger.

Indeed. A lot of things happened years ago. When people become hungry they will eat just about anything. Even resorting to cannibalism. We need to look no further than the Donner event.

However, none of that has any factor in the present nor does it have any bearing on the fact that for this ole boy, eating innards is not my thing. As long as I have steaks, back straps, burger and roast, I’ll continue to leave the guts for the scavengers.

Nothing against anyone that chooses to eat whatever they want. My standards are a bit higher than some.😁

That is true. It’s somewhat like a poll. A pull can indicate just about whatever results a particular group may want simply by going to specific areas to conduct the pole.

However, it’s truly sad that there is a basically no true investigative journalism nowadays. It’s even more sad that specific news outlets will only alllow what the management wants to be reported.

The worst yet is the enormous lack of common sense in the world. How so many people will allow themselves to become thought shaped by such propaganda outlets is astounding. And yes, the article is banking on people becoming fearful about CWD. Many of us know it, we know the truth, but most do not.

In terms of media, fear sells.

CWD is new here in Florida. Just one case so far.

How do Coloradans deal with determining whether a killed deer is fit to eat or should be disposed of?
Patocazador, there’s also home test kits available. Obviously you would need to have one on hand prior to killing the tested animal.

I’ve looked at the websites of several states that are dealing with CWD and there’s information on the F&G websites.

Personally, I’ve lived in 9 different states and hunted 8 of those. Even though CWD was supposed to be in some of those states, I have never seen a reason to be concerned about it.

I too have heard that feeders ,baiting are a bad idea and help spread that disease. Here in Indiana starting late December through March deer heard up. I have seen heards of 12 all the way to 25+, eating and sleeping together. So why is that ok but when they gather around a baiting area that's bad?
thats a good question. i dont think there would be a difference since them all being together

Fish in a Barrel, can't get behind that. There's a market so be it, not for me. I did a game farm pheasant and quail hunt. Birds so doped up the dogs would bring em in and gently set em down and the "guides" would toss em in the air and they were shot. Some didn't even fly away and just plopped on the ground. I did shoot one pheasant but wouldn't eat it gave it to the buddy that invited me. NOT what I expected.
I've experienced the same thing on a Texas Hog hunt, when I saw the tame caged Hogs and the shooting setup my Son and I left, too much like buying a Ham sandwich, shooting it and mounting it.
