The key hilariously is to not listen to people and the "right way" everyone using half cock is wrong in my opinion. I pull the pin and point the gun down to make sure the loading lever stays down. Then I pull the hammer back until the cylinder falls out. About a 1/4 in the hand and locking lug disengage at the same time and the cylinder can fall right out. Same thing for going back in. No rotating necessary. You can take it out and look at when everything is disengaged. To put the pin back in center I cup it with my left hand and center it my best and push down on the pin I then go by feel and line it up until it slips in. I'll do videos if that helps.
Sounds like a plan, A video would be great. Some of us older guys need to see things to get it right! Thanks for the information. I will try your technique and let you know how it works out. Alos, If i seemed hard on you it wasn't to be a pita. I have seen to much in my years where may good men died were crippled etc when they thought they were doing the right thing. I have also seen our justice system be manipulated and used to free the guilty and incarcerate the innocent. Don't want that to happen to you.

I 100% agree and truly do appreciate it. I carry because my brothers house got broke into while he was home. He got beaten until he had to get every tooth in his bottom jaw replaced and he would have died but the gun the guys had against his head didn't go off. Cops found a dent on the primer but no bang. saved by God in my opinion. I too have seen how wrong a good shoot can turn out and I have a lot of respect for the consequences of pulling the trigger right or wrong. If that gun went off I would have lost my brother that day. He was 25 at the time and moved out for the record. And as I said best case it's 50k in lawyers and jail time. Worst case you spend the rest of your life in prison.

I could have come off as a gun toting trigger happy teen but I'm very reserved in reality. Convenient for sake of argument on my drive home from work a couple days ago there was a guy trying to stop people and jack a car. Atleast that's what I'm going to assume someone at 12am dressed in all black with a skee mask is doing trying to stop cars on the feeder.

Yes, bad things happen to good people all the time. I am truly sorry to hear what happen to you brother. Those type of traumatic events leave their own kind of scars that never go away.

People who ask why I feel it's necessary to have a gun don't understand just how quickly it can go from answering the door for a friend to 5 guys rushing you.

I understand and this is in no way a "judgement" on you , but you need to make sure you are not involved in activities that would cause that scenario nor hanging out with people that might do those kind of deeds, even if they are only on the "fringe" of your social circle etc. I know we can't always just pick up and move. However, if this is truly a concern, I would be working on a plan to move, improve my conditions etc. It may take time, but it can be done.

I have one friend. I go from school to home home to work and work to home. Pretty much my life. Definitely not up to anything that could get me in trouble besides being out and about alot.

And honestly these problems are everywhere. Has nothing to do with my particular area it's everywhere nowadays. People just aren't like the old days.

I am sorry if I come off as immature or combative but 4 days of people coming after me for no reason other than me being young dose that. I understand that I am young and don't know everything but saying I know nothing or that I can't have a valid opinion because I'm 18 is stupid. And every time someone says something and I prove it wrong people just stoop lower to try and get at me. First it was power then reliability then it was because there is better options then it can't be reloaded fast enough and we go all the way down the rabbit hole to the point where we are arguing whether or not you should carry at all. I think what is more immature is that grown men are arguing with an 18 yo about any of this.
I' don't consider 18 stupid, just inexperienced. The manufacturers enclosed load data is what the manufacturer considers a safe load for the weapon in question. Any weapon. When a BP rifle manufacturer published 75gr max charge then the shooter used 3-50gr pyrodex pellets, all he has done is rolled the dice to injury. If he wanted a 30-06, he should have bought one. Same with your revolver. It will never shoot like a modern handgun whatever how much powder you put in it. The published load is what the manufacturer considers safe for the weapon for a long life of use with the tolerances the materials it is manufactured with. Over stressing the metal over charging) leads to faster metal fatigue which leads to metal frag's in your face and missing fingers. Yeah but, don't listen to me. I've only spent 32 years in the military, USMC/US Army, 12B, with more combat missions outside the wire than you wanna' know. All I ask is one day when you count your fingers and come up short, Remember this post. I will pray you come to your senses. Semper Fi.

Well, this is all well and good, but i still am having a hard time understanding why an 18 yr old feels like they need to be armed! Something is not complete in this picture. How many of you were armed 24/7 when you were 18? I know I wasn't? Just one man's opinion. :dunno:
come to think about it. when i had a gun when 18 yrs old only tume i was armed was when i was hunting. dud t never ride around at night with a gun. but also i know times have changed now.there is a lot of young people that i know that carry guns in their vehicles now.didnt say it was right or wrong.aunt judging no one on this matter. but a lot can happen when you pull a gun on someone. and i dont carry in my truck just riding around. wish everyone the best

i never over load these type of guns. u sir are telling it right. thumbs up to you

I see your point, the difference is you were around it all the time. My town ( still live there today) was "Mayberry" when I was growing up, going to school . . . not anymore!! Nearby Atlanta (Buckhead ) area was a posh, safe place to go until the last 3 yrs. Today thugs rule the streets, dirt bikes / 4 wheelers on the streets, gang bangers robbing / shooting up Lenox Square . . . main problem is the spread of it and the invasion going on.
Constitution is the only "legitimate reason" as far as I'm concerned. Shouldn't ever have to ask govt. permission to protect oneself.

Most or all of this could have been avoided if it weren't for career politicians.

Mike
dang MIKE i would not like to see a town get like where u live. its not that bad here down below charlotte nc. but charlotte is a mess now. reckon it will drift down that way here soon. people sure have changed since i was young. stay safe

And don't get me started on the subject of proof. Bc according to some people on here you can't reload an 1858 army fast. And you need a little tool and it's all janky and takes forever. Well I said that was wrong and I backed it up with certifiable proof. Btw not sure what tool is required to reload a cap and ball so if anyone knows please do elaborate. Maybe the Paterson revolver?
some people can reload fast. ive seen them do it. ugh i aint trying it lol. im slow. scared i might forget and leave something out. lol

If you don't carry a gun, you won't be tempted to use it. Tragedy avoided. Once you pull that trigger, there's no turning back.

I agree you shouldn't over load them and ye factory says not to. Loading them hot is taking a risk. With that being said I have never heard of a pieta 1858 blowing up from loading it too hot with bp or a suitable substitute. Personally I'm willing to take the risk if it blows up on me and I make it ill post it on here as a warning with proof. I DO NOT RECOMMEND that anyone load a cap and ball that hot. 60gn of pyrodex is enough do cause some serious problems. I did it once on one cylinder to say that it can be done and know it for a fact. If I can fit 60gn and a round ball I can fit 35 and a 250gn conical still a very very hot load and not recommended. Through my research I am willing to risk it for science. I understand it's inferior metal but still better metal than an original dragoon by my guess. For those of you that want to try this just understand my start load for a .50cal Hawkins is 60 gn. It's dumb don't do it. But stay tuned because I'll do it for you.

This is true but at the same time my brother got beaten so severely that every tooth in his bottom jaw is fake now. He couldn't avoid it. He answered the door for a friend of his and apparently 5 guys had him at gun point and as soon as the door opens the rushed in. I will continue to plan for the worst and hope for the best. I would rather plead my case in court than be dead. My choice to take a life to save my own is between me and god. It's no different than a boy scout carrying a compass it's not because he plans on getting lost it's just to be prepared.
