1:48 twist - Patched round ball troubles

Just kidding

Although I did have some error on my #2 shot. The other 5 made up for it.

Traditions St.Louis Hawken ( Kit Gun I did years ago ) .54cal 1:48 twist, 70gr 3fg Gearhart-Owen, .020" patches, .530" round balls @ 50 yards.

I know I never shot another load in my renegade. Started at 70gr 3f and it shot so good I never tried anything else.

Enjoy that kind of shooting while you are fairly young. At seventy years old I am just able to determine the bull through my sights at fifty.

A 1:70 twist would have corrected that 2nd shot, its about .22 of a twist off....

Mine likes 70 grains 2F, too! Never tried a modern conical, shoots a fine Minie, though!

I've always had fine accuracy from the Spanish & Italian barrels. Yours is special! :thumb:

Mighty fine. 1:48" twist is, IMHO, the best all around for ml rifles.
