SOLD WTS: .45-Cal Lancaster-style flinter by Brian Turner

Offered here is a very nice, only lightly used, early Lancaster-style .45 caliber flintlock rifle by the late gunsmith Brian Turner. I acquired this rifle new from Track of the Wolf back in late 2007. I’m getting older and am thinning the herd – this is my last flintlock.

This gun is still in excellent shape, inside and out. The front sight was too high and has been filed down some. Also, the hammer will only stay cocked if the triggers have been set first. That’s not how the gun came, but I’m not skilled or knowledgeable enough to attempt to remedy that.

The barrel is 36” long and the overall length of the gun is about 52”.

All of the metal furniture is nickel silver.

Beautiful figured maple, with a wide buttplate.

The photos here are mine and were taken yesterday. I am also attaching the original Track of the Wolf description with its own photos and a more detailed description.

I have 100% positive feedback on GunBroker under “Tom in Pittsburgh” and on eBay under “we-no-nah.”

Asking $1,600 – which includes full shipping and insurance to a lower 48 address.

What make of barrel ? Is it straight or swamped ?

Straight barrel?

Thanks for your interest - tough to get good shots of the bore, but here goes. The bore is clean and strong with deep lands and grooves. I'm sure you would not be disappointed!

I was able to open the one in the original post. Beautiful rifle- I just don't know how many more beautiful rifles I need.

Here is the info of the rifle:

AAE-392 Lancaster County Longrifle .45 caliber, 36" barrel, Siler flintlock, curly maple stock, silver trim, by Brian Turner . . .
In near new condition, this rifle will serve you well. This attractive Lancaster rifle is .45 caliber, with a straight octagon 36" rifled barrel. A large Siler flintlock is fitted to the curly maple stock. The barrel and lock are finished a nice dark chocolate brown. The figured maple stock is stained to a whiskey brown with golden undertones. The rifle is trimmed in nickel silver furniture, and fitted with double set triggers. Assembled and signed by contemporary builder Brian Turner.
The .45 caliber 36" straight octagon Green Mountain barrel has been browned to match the lock. The .45 caliber bore is
rifled with eight lands and grooves in a 1 in 60" twist for patched round ball. Internally the bore is mirror bright. The top flat of the browned barrel is signed B. Turner.
The front and rear sight have been browned to match the color of the barrel. The rear sight is 10" from the breech and the front sight has been placed 2" from the muzzle.
Weighing in at 8.1 pounds, the rifle has a trigger reach of 14” making it perfectly suited for today’s larger or taller shooter.
Note the nice curl in the buttstock. Stocked in figured maple, the stock is stained to a whiskey brown with gold undertones. The rifle is trimmed in nickel silver furniture, which has been polished mirror bright. The nickel silver furniture contrasts nicely with the stock finish.
Forward along the forend, the nickel silver ramrod pipes have an octagon flats to match the 36" straight octagon barrel. The chevron forend cap fits nicely around the muzzle of the barrel.
Study the view, and notice how the cheek is angled to the rear, to recoil away from your face, an ingenious feature found on better rifles. A straight tang is fitted to the breech of the barrel. A single tang bolt engages the triggerplate below.
The nickel silver buttplate finial has an octagon design to match the 36" straight octagon barrel.
The nickel silver triggerguard has been polished to a mirror bright finish. The triggerguard bow is wide enough to accept double lever double set triggers. The triggerguard has been pinned in the rear and front finial. Note the attractive figure in the stock.
Fitted with a large Siler lock, the lock has been finished to a dark chocolate brown to match the straight octagon barrel. This lock captures the hand forged styling used on many American longrifles. Most flint locks were imported from England or Europe, for use by American gunmakers. The main spring is very strong.
Fast ignition is assured by the stainless vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of
the flash. A vent liner brings the main powder charge very close to the center of your priming flash. If your flint longrifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.
The double lever double set triggers are properly tuned to fire from the set or unset position. You may cock the lock or set the trigger before or after cocking the lock.
A silver sideplate retains the two lock bolts. It is inlet flush with the side panel. The side plate is polished mirror bright. The stock is shaped with a classic square cheek.

Barrel measures 7/8” across the flats.

I'm drooling here. Nice rifle. Too bad my gun fun fund is mostly depleted.
