    Great Plains 54 Caplock kit

Search “nmlra” on youtube. They did a 9 part series on building a tradition’s st. Louis hawken Kit. I understand it is not a Great Plains but it is the same concept. Very informative video series that gives you a birds eye view step by step.

    The Hawken Shop rifle kit

The NMLRA has a video series of building a Traditions hawken kit on YouTube. You could watch that series and decide for yourself if it is something you can do on your own. It didn’t look like to hard of a project to me. Depends on how far Down the rabbit hole you want to go. The beauty of it...

    wouldn't ignite

Condensation is a killer. Cost me a deer on my first deer hunt in below zero weather. Now once the rifle is loaded it rides in the box of the pickup in a case and in the cold garage in a case. Never in the heated pickup or house.

    Cold weather patch lube.

I ran a test on cold weather patch lubes about 8 years ago. I would lube a patch and let it sit on the dash of my pick up overnight in the driveway in well below zero weather. Bore butter was the first to freeze, followed by olive oil second.this year was my first year using TOTW mink oil. From...

    wouldn't ignite

A few lessons I learned when hunting: 1. Flush bore, nipple, and flash channel with 91% rubbing alcohol before heading afield. 2. Pop a couple caps before you load the rifle. 3. If hunting in cold weather, leave the weapon cold if you plan on hunting for a few...

    What’s your favorite BP substitute.

yes you are correct, I paid $29.99 for the pound of triple 7 ffg I bought at runnings the other day. But if It shoots reliably, cleans up good, gets a little bit more velocity, and I can pick up a pound or two every now and then on my 5 min drive from work to home, imagine how joyous and simple...

    What’s your favorite BP substitute.

I hope I don’t run into those issues with the gpr. Up here in North I have had a heck of a time finding black powder, it was probably 8 years ago when I bought my last batch of goex at a gun shop in Bismarck, Nd and at that time they said they were done ordering BP. I just don’t want to deal...

    What’s your favorite BP substitute.

If my memory serves me right, I believe I have an ampco nipple on the gpr now. If the cci #11 magnum caps don’t work on my current nipple I might have to order some nipples. Good tip👍

    What’s your favorite BP substitute.

I am confused, did I post in the flintlock thread or the percussion thread? I could care less about subs in a flintlock! I was hoping to get advice and tips from guys who have had success with subs in percussion muzzleloaders, not a stream of guys talking about flintlocks in the percussion thread.

As you should, those things hang fire enough on real black powder lol.

    What’s your favorite BP substitute.

Hey all, I’m just diving into the possibility of subs in my .54 gpr percussion. I have only used goex 2f since I bought the rifle ten years ago. I received half a pound of pyrodex p that is over ten years old from my dad and it shot accurately with 80 grains behind a PRB, but I was not a fan of...

Just shot My rifle at The range in -4 F yesterday morning and killed a deer at 6 F yesterday afternoon using mink oil. Easy, cheap, and it just flat works!
