    New here. A few questions.

    I may be corrected here, but I think the red pillow ticking measures .015" and the blue mattress ticking is .018". usually. It can vary. (I think those colors and thicknesses are correct) The best thing to do is get some of both and try them, then go with what works best.

    Shotgun bore mop for cleaning?

    I have seen a .40/.45 caliber mop. I don't know how tightly it would fit in the bore. Since it is only a couple of dollars I can try a few different sizes, but I was hoping to get an idea if it needed to be oversized and by how much. I figure they might be looser than a caliber specific jag.

    I only use brass jags for any firearm. I didn't even know they made steel jags.

    Will a wet shotgun bore mop clean the bore of a flintlock? I guess I am wondering if it would be tight enough in the bore to remove the fouling. Would it just push the fouling to the breech? They just seem to be an easy tool to use, there must be a catch.

    Ahh, I think I get it. I can safely run a dry patch through a wet bore, but shouldn't run a dry patch through a dry bore?

    I have read many threads from people who get a jag and patch stuck because they use a dry patch. I also read that a dry patch is supposed to be used after cleaning and when wiping between shots. Now I'm confused. What makes a dry patch get stuck? BTW, some of the older members may remember...

    I have Ballistol and will be mixing some, probably 6 to 1 to start. Once I soak my patch material and squeeze the excess out, how long do I need to let it dry? Do I need to keep the lubed patch material in an airtight container like a ziploc bag if I won't be shooting immediately? Can I lube...

    It was 56* today and should be over 60* tomorrow. Anything under 40* I start thinking about hibernating. Of course 95* is just a warm sunny day- made for playing outside.

    Thanks for the replies. I don't know why I thought about this today, but I don't remember reading anything about it. I guess since the pressures are lower there isn't as much effect as on high pressure smokeless powders.
