The original post, by gkainz, shows a can of Dynamit Nobel BB caps, and is correctly labeled for such. A later post, by SDSmlf, shows a similar can of blanks, also properly labeled. Major discoloration of brass after first shooting
Sulfur, and the residue from BP (which contains sulfur) will tarnish brass and copper on contact. If you touch the brass furniture on your muzzleloaders while shooting, the result is what you see. Sharps O Ring Breech Mod
As originally made and fitted, the Sharps percussion models, including the slant breech, did not suffer from the severe gas leaking problem when new and unworn. I'd be equally concerned about the possibility of corrosion: moisture has a way of getting in to 'sealed' chambers and pyrodex is not immune. I'm with the 'pull the load' faction. Then you can inspect the bore and see what condition both the load and the barrel are in. mhb - MIke- mhb
