Converting Chambers' Queen Anne lock into a 1700 one...

Thanks gentlemen! I appreciate the suggestion. I wonder if anyone has tried to convert one to a banana-shaped one, and has a photo of it? Thanks again, and please feel free to share ideas; I sure need them!

Converting Chambers' Queen Anne lock into a 1700 one...

Hi! I am thinking to convert a Queen Anne lock into a banana-shaped one with one bolt holding the frizzen. Is it practical? Has anyone tried to do so? Thanks! Flintfan.

Anyone know where I can find a copy of

Good morning Gentlemen! First off, thanks a million for the info! :hatsoff: It is known that the wheellock touch holes were drilled "at an angle" in order to divert the stream of fire away from the pyrite. What if it was drilled at an angle that "looks" not towards the shooter or muzzle end...

Anyone know where I can find a copy of

Thanks W! Let me, just for fun, determine whether I understand it correctly: If the wheel spins "towards" the shooter, then the spark shower is supposed to be falling BEHIND the wheel. Therefore, MOST of the priming powder must be located behind the wheel (shooter side of the pan) as well...

Anyone know where I can find a copy of

Good morning! Sorry to butt into the conversation, but I have been wondering (since you've got the book), what is the Author's opinion of a touch hole position on a wheellock barrel? Been wondering about it since I have been trying to build one, and am almost done with my lock. Any input will...

    Venthole Location

Roarin'54, good morning! Actually, you can do both: raise the barrel, and install a vent hole. If you don't, the hole drilled in the barrel will rust and increase in diametre in time, and that's not what you want to happen. Jim Chambers' White Lightenin' vent is the best there is in the market...

Has anyone bought a set of wheellock castings...

Bookie is slightly exagerrating: it is somewhat worse than that. But! when it is built and ready to spin, your joy is endless, and the only thing you remember is that YOU HAVE A WHEELLOCK!!!! I know, because I also have a Germanic wheellock kit. Of course, Bookie did a much better job, and...

A source of LIGHT-WEIGHT smooth barrels

Thanks Benvenuto and Sqirejohn! Also, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, I haven't found the barrels I was looking for: light AND tapered. If you think of any other sources please let me know, I would certainly appreciate any input. Cheers! All the best, Flintfan.

A source of LIGHT-WEIGHT smooth barrels

Thanks Rich! Actually, I have no preference so far: tubing barrels are also good for me as long as they are STRONG. What is the difference? Thanks again! :thanks: Flintfan

A source of LIGHT-WEIGHT smooth barrels

Well Gentlemen, you have been great! But here is another question: where could one get a lightweight (steel?) smooth barrel, sort of like ones they used for muskets back in the days? Is there a source for similar barrels for pistols? Thanks in advance! All the best, Flintfan. :thanks:

The correct way of loading a smoothbore

Good morning everybody! Could you please enlighten a newbie on how to correctly load a smoothbore (with a ball AND some shot, not at once, of course)? Thanks in advance! All the best, Flintfan :thanks:

How good is J Hayward's book?

Many thanks Gentlemen! Cool! You gave me plenty of information about these books, and I will try and get them all, even though it will take time. You might want to add some of the titles to the "Books of early firearms" section of this site, etc. Thanks again! All the best, Flintfan :RO:
