I’ve wondered how much trouble it would be and how much it would cost for someone in England to send me a flint nodule.
It would be very far too expensive as I was going to send stuff to Tommy in Maine I am not that good at napping and gave up this last year but must get back into it. Up in Norfolk is the the big flint producing area. It’s hard to get big nodules from the cliffs most are broken bits I get you get them broken up by farm machinery too , it’s dangerous so the cliff faces are fenced of, but not along the beach, must try that, and they are heavy to carry,I usually take a shopping trolly But they would make nice presents. I make a few flint tipped arrows and they go down well as presents I am west of London on clay. , but flint chalk starts 15 miles south of us and then 50 miles down to the close. Namely “ the white cliffs of dover”. The chalk starts at Brighton running east right to the french coast , good french flint. In the French wars we preferred French flint to our own so I read

Thanks for the info.

Dixie Gun Works sells English Flint nodules.
Yes, I’ve bought one from them. I was just thinking of cutting out the middle man so to speak. There is a knap-in once a year a couple of hours away where I can buy nodules. They don’t advertise it well so I missed it this year. Going to try for next year.

Took my Yellow Bird Gun out with the 9" .54 caliber barrel. 30 grains Pyrodex P under a .530 PRB. Target was a 1 quart milk jug set at about 15 yards and sploded nicely at the first shot. I'm a bit surprised that this barrel does so well with such a short length and primitive sights.

Tried my original Rogers & Spencer with different loads and bullets.

Seems, 15 grain FFFFG Swiss powder (Nr. 1) , 20 grain grease and a .464 roundball are a good starting load for small groups at 25 m.
Flyers are the shooters fault.

The first shots with a clean barrel are not recorded. Seems that the barrel needs some black powder residue to shoot better.

189 20 grain 1,5 FG
190 15 grain FFFFG
191 5 20 grain the outer ones and 10 15 grain FFFFG

20 grain 1,5 FG (Nr. 4) may work too.

The .457 balls may suffice, the LEE conicals are to small as they are .452 or so.

I am running out of .464. balls as the ASP Rogers & Spencer does not need larger bullets tahn .457.
25m. Pretty good shooting. A very interesting gun and history there. Pictures?

Not exactly muzzle loading, but I have been spending down time smearing paint on things.

I'm waiting for Amazon to get here with a 13/16" hole saw so I can enlarge the holes in my Godwin cartridge box.
I don't know why these guys can't make these so you don't have to force the cartridges into the hole. But at least it has enough wood to work with. Unlike my Pakistan cartridge box.

So you do... have hair ;)

I got hornswaggled with the Pakistan box. It said "ships from NY", but that was a supposed warehouse I found out.
Quality box though as far as the leather and strap.

Went to a gun show today and bought a .50 cal Thompson Center Renegade percussion lock rifle with a leather sling. A little rough on the outside, but the bore looks fairly good. Need to buy a cleaning jab to swab it out to see what I got for sure. Can't find my camera or I'd post a pic.
