Right outside the house where I now live there are several thickets of rivercane. Nearby is also a thicket of larger bamboo. I've harvested both and used them for powder measures - rivercane - and the much larger bamboo even makes decent powder horns. None of the rivercane here grows large enough to make the fishing poles we made as kids in the Deep South. The bamboo certainly is, though.
