I’ve just started using grease-groove bullets in my Whitworth rifle, and my results seem promising and worth fine tuning a load for. However I’ve only ever used paper patched bullets in it, and I don’t lubricate the paper.
My current lubricant for the grease groove slugs is the same 50-50 olive oil and beeswax that I soak the felt wads in, because I already had it on hand.
Perhaps it’s an esoteric question, but what are some indicators that a lube is working well or needs changing? As for leading, I believe hardness does more to prevent that than does lubrication. But I’m here to learn.
