Don't want to change this fine old guns' caliber. I'll live with the shredded and burnt patches. I'm getting sub 1" groups at 25 yards using a .345 ball, .015 ticking patch lubed with mink oil, all over a .36 caliber wool felt wad used for BP handguns. Can't complain about that. It's a great old time squirrel gun.

If your getting sub 1 inch groups at 25 yards and just hunting squirrels and rabbits, just live with it and be happy.

Tight loads usually give me the best accuracy; and is accomplished with tough, thicker patches. Among the materials that seem to work best in my rifles are canvas duck which measures around .020" compressed as hard as I can squeeze it with calipers. Even better is an unbleached canvas I have that's extremely tough and that compresses to .022". Mattress ticking runs also around.019" or so compressed. The heavy canvas measures around .028", on average, when simply squeezed but not compressed. I would like to know what weight of canvas it is but it was purchased years ago and some was used in construction. Just though I'd mention this FWIW. :v
