    Muzzleloading in Finland

Well guys, I'm not sure exactly where to post this but... ...I've received a promotion and 2 year job assignment to Helsinki, Finland to work at the corporate office. My family and will be leaving this coming Saturday. With the preparations for moving, I have not had time to research much on...

    First Flintlock Deer

Earlier this year I built a LH 54 cal Isaac Haines Lancaster from a Dunlap kit. I've been able to make it to the range a couple times to get her dialed in at around 50 yards, and settled on 80 grains of fffg with .018 pillow ticking and mink oil. Well, it paid off this afternoon and harvested my...

    Lancaster 54 cal - 2nd build

Well, I didn't do as good of a job posting updates on this build, but here she is, my deer slayer. As the title says it's my 2nd build, this time I used the Dunlap kit. I must say I have been very pleased with the quality of wood and components - highly recommend them. Anyway, I'm not 100%...

    Shaping Lock Panels

I'm working on my second build (from a Dunlap kit) and am at the lock panel shaping. This is the point where I typically need another set of eyes. Sometimes mine don't see what others see. Also, I've roughly penciled in my molding. Here's where I am at so far, any pointers would be great:

    Muzzle cap size

I've got a c weight barrel and need a muzzle cap, but not sure what size. The muzzle is just under an inch where it tapers out, so would it be better to get a 15/16 and file it to fit or a 1 inch? What ya think? Thanks!

    Pecatonica early fowler stock

Buying parts for a fowler build and had a stock question. Has anyone built one using Pecatonica's early fullstock fowler? I'm not sure if it's my eyes or what but I'm having a hard time seeing the architecture similar to other English or New England fowlers. It'd be great to see some pics of...

    Lefty Jaeger Build

As many of you know I'm wrong-handed, and throwing around some build ideas. I've always been really attracted to the Jaeger style rifles, but of course being a lefty, parts may be an issue. Here's where my thoughts are: Barrel - no problem Stock - Knob Mountain has a left pattern available...

    White lightnin installation

Okay, I'm working on my second build and installing a white lightnin touchhole liner from Jim Chambers (not the TOW version). So far I've drilled and tap the hole and slightly countersunk for the shoulder using an 82 degree countersink as indicated on the directions from Jim Chambers. My...

    Sealing a powder horn

After finishing my first rifle build a bit ago, I decided that it needed a powder horn to go with it. So I ordered a Cureton powder horn kit from powderhornsandmore. After doing some basic shaping/design work, I proceeded to drill and pin the base as directed in the instructions. I've read about...

    Knife pins or rivets?

I'm going to try my hand at building a trade knife and would like to know what the experienced guys use for fastening maple or walnut to the tang. I've seen brass rivets and brass rod used, but what's recommended? Thanks! Stuart

    Which curl would you choose?

So I have a wonderful dilemma...I need to choose a stock for my next build (Lancaster). What would you go with (price is the same)? Option 1 - is a fine curl (grade 6/7) Option 2 - wild tiger curl (grade 6) The fine is actually graded slightly higer, but something is pulling me into the...

Tip Curtis Lancaster Kit Part II

Okay thought the last thread was getting pretty lengthy so here's the part 2. Thanks for everyone's input on the forearm profile. I'm pretty happy with it now. I've started to shape the lock panel now and here's what I've got so far: Keep in mind I haven't started to blend the molding lines. I...

    Successful Draw in New Mexico!

I finally pulled a deer tag for New Mexico, after two years of applying! My brother, who lives there, pulled the same tag. Looks like some mule deer will be in trouble come October 25! Hope the rest of ya's were successful as well!

    Siler Part Question

Okay, so I made a big boo boo last night and broke my sear (don't ask, it involves my daughter and a vise). I bought my lock as a kit from Tip Curtis, so not exactly sure who made the lock (it's a left hand, large Siler). Anyway, are all Siler parts interchangeable? I see parts for Chambers...

    Drill and tap recommendation

After looking at drill and taps (seems to be hard to find locally) I noticed TOW recommends using high carbon steel. Does anyone have any recommendations and/or suggestions? I'd like to find something to drill and tap the lockplate and trigger assembly without boogering it up. I think my kit...

    Dovetails on A weight barrel

I'm to the point of cutting dovetails for the underlugs and wanted to ask everyone's opinion as my 38" .40 A weight is thin and don't want to mess it up. I'm planning on placing 3 underlugs, two dovetailed and one soldered. The first dovetail I'm planning on placing about 9-10 inches from the...

Rice barrel - next build options

I was going to write this on the Lancaster Chambers thread, but worried it might have high jacked it, so here we are. Even though I'm working on a rifle, I'm already thinking about my next build...tell me I'm not alone, gents. Anyway, I've got a Rice 54 cal 38" c weight barrel, and have been...

    Black Cherry Blank(s)

Hey gents, I've got a friend who just cut down a large black cherry tree, here in AL. He said he would cut some boards out of it, so that I could use it for stock material. He's asking what dimensions I would like, and I was wondering if you guys could help... So far, I 'm think 2.5 inches...

    Narex Chisels

As some of you know I've been working on my first build (Tip Curtis 40 cal Lancaster), and have about had it with my main chisel - a cheap 1/4 Kobalt from Lowes. The darn thing dulls extremely quickly! Anywho, I decided to do a little research, and found some very affordable chisels from Narex...
