    Traditions .32 cal. crockett rifle

15 gr of 3F seems to be THE load for the 32. I started at 20 and worked up. Never could get any accuracy with a PRB from 2 different .32's. After reading some old threads a little while back, I tried my current .32 with 15 grains, shoots like a champ.

If you could change one thing about muzzleloading...

Traditional muzzle loaders are dying because of themselves. I am 48, been shooting sidelocks since 1988 and am always the youngest guy shooting them, no matter where I have lived. To get the young guys in, you have to peak their interest. The rage now is the tacticool manure. But, lots of them...

    Early Ruger OA cylinder size

I have a stainless OA and it barely shaves a ring off either.

105 gr Maxi ball in 32 cal Crockett

I have a GM .32 barrel that I shoot them in. RMC brand from Track of the Wolf or some other supplier. 30 grains of 3F and they shoot great. This barrel has a 1-48" twist and wont shoot PRB worth a flip. These were a last chance before I considered having it bored out.

What is flying back at me?

I first got into black powder at Ft Lewis, WA. I was out shooting on the range on post one day, .54 and my revolver. The range used to get all of the old bowling pins from the alley on post, and folks would set them up on specially made frames and knock em down. Sooo, my buddy and I figured...

Disappointed with 54 cal round ball.

I still had these in photobucket. You can see the ball didnt flatten out at all. The only distortion was probably where it went thru the shoulder blade. On the sides, I can still make out the indentations from the patch. Sorry for the crappy deer pic. I have a dumb phone and the only light...

Disappointed with 54 cal round ball.

I shot a doe last year, .535 Speer over 90 grains of Grafs 2F. She came out with a yearling, feeding in one of the plots on our lease when I was in AL. I was hunting the afternoon, she came out just as it was getting almost too dark to see. See was feeding, head on to me. I kept waiting for...

    drop-in GR .32 barrel

I have a GM .32, 1" barrel in a Renegade stock. Yes, it is very heavy. It is not a walking around gun, a shooting off a rest gun. Think heavy barrel, 22 centerfire varmit gun and that is what it comes to, weight-wise.

    Peep for White Mountain Carbine?

Lyman makes a great one, 57SML I think is what it is called. I have 4 of them. You will either have to/have your tang drilled and tapped. I dont think any WMC's were made with the third hole. On the guns I put the peep sights on, I put the Lyman globe sight on as well. If you dont like the...

    Greenmountain Barrel

There is a used LRH barrel on Ebay now, 3 bids, up to $125, 5 days left. The last 2 or 3 slow twist barrels I have watched on there have gone for lots more. I know folks shoot conicals or paper patched thru them, but from what I have seen over the last year, the slow twist barrels go for much...

    Greenmountain Barrel

Probably not as much as the slower twist barrels run. I have one, and it is a good shooter, but I think that most who would want a fast twist for the unspeakable projectiles would rather have a more modern gun. I watch online for GM barrels, and it seems the slow twist barrels command a higher...

Felt Wads - Lubed vs. Unlubed?

That is some good shooting. Those heavies gotta pack a wallop on both ends. I am just curious about the big velocity difference you are seeing there. It doesnt have a huge affect on your groups at 50, just wondering if you have shot them at 100? Are you swabbing between shots? I like...

    Where to get #11 caps?

That would be the place. It is my kind of shop. Not a bunch of tactical manure.

    Where to get #11 caps?

Today I found a shop here in town that specializes in SASS and BP stuff. CCI 10, 11, 11 mags and Win 11 Mags. Plenty of Goex on hand as well as all of the subs. Lots of round balls, patches, conicals, lubes, cleaning stuff etc. I feel like I hit the mother lode with this shop. The other shop...

    JM Browning mt rifle

I would most likely shoot both of them. Guns are meant to be used. I cant imagine having a nice gun like that and not shooting it.

Green Mountain drop in barrel vs Lyman great plains rifle barrel

GPR's are dime a dozen. GM barrels are no more. You can always pick up a GPR. If you sell your GM barreled T/C, chances are you will never be able to replace it. I have 4 GM barrels, they all shoot great. No way would I get rid of one to get a GPR. Get a GPR and keep the GM if you are...

    Where to get #11 caps?

I just moved to Tucson in Sep. After checking out the local gun shops, one had thousands of CCI #11's and #11 mags. Since I am fairly well stocked on caps, I did buy 300, just in case it was a fluke and they become scarce around here. Guy at the counter said they dont sell many and there was...

    T/C breech plug question

When you say flushing after 5 shots, are you pouring a solvent down the barrel? If so, try snapping a few caps before loading to dry out the flash channel. I have noticed that a too-wet patch will cause a misfire if you don't dry out the bottom of the breech and flash channel. Also, bouncing...

    It all started with one!

They do grow on you. I have 7 percussion rifles and a Ruger Old Army. Probably been thru about 4-5 other black powder rifles and 1 C&B revolver along the way as well. I do have one of the more modern rifles, but it doesn't get shot much at all.

    T/C Renegade trigger

Ebay used to be full of single trigger conversions. Just type in Thompson Center Renegade.
