I'm near Knoxville. If you're close I'll drag your deer.

Good luck Jeff. I wish I had your problem (too many bucks).

Ohio Muzzleloading Season this Sat. ..Anyone hunting deer ?

So at about 9:30 Saturday morning I missed a "chip shot" at a medium-sized doe. I think I drew down just a little too fine a bead on the shoulder and shot under her at about 55 yards. I was disappointed in myself to say the least because I had been shooting groups like this at 65. Near the...

Ohio Muzzleloading Season this Sat. ..Anyone hunting deer ?

Took a shed-antlered buck yesterday at the end of the day. I'll get a few more details a little later.

Ohio Muzzleloading Season this Sat. ..Anyone hunting deer ?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. Hopefully the dry spell ends this weekend and I'll be posting a hero shot with my GPR. I love the late season hunts. Our ML season here in TN, runs two weeks immediately prior to rifle. The late ML in NY (the other state I hunt) runs immediately after shotgun...

Ohio Muzzleloading Season this Sat. ..Anyone hunting deer ?

Sad huh? I hunt all public land 4 or 5 days in Nov with a long bow and a few days late ML with my Lyman. I am not a trophy hunter so that's not the issue. (I will frankly shoot any rack buck and a nice doe during ML) I have taken 50 plus deer with bow, shotgun andML so that's not the issue. I...

Ohio Muzzleloading Season this Sat. ..Anyone hunting deer ?

I'm driving up on Friday for a few days. You guys be good and push them my way. I'm trying to break a three year deerless drought.

How's the OH late ML shaping up?

I'll take the 30s after last year's single digits.

How's the OH late ML shaping up?

I saw your thread on the barrel. That is a scary issue. I would do the same. I am toting a new Lyman 54 cal GPR shooting patch and ball. Looking to bloody it in OH for sure.

How's the OH late ML shaping up?

RtWing, I hunt a bunch of areas from Maxville to Shawnee. Usually stay at Bear Run Cabins. They are great people.

Lightening the stock on a GPR

OK, so I just read a bunch of threads on finishing/refinishing stocks. Here's what I think I gathered. 1. Strip the entire stock with either a commercial stripper or acetone, etc. 2. Lightly sand 3. Carefully following directions, use Tru-Oil in very light applications letting it dry completely...

Lightening the stock on a GPR

So, remove the factory finish either by stripping or reshaping the stock. And then since it is walnut would you recommend simply going straight to a finish oil rather than staining it? My guess is that it is a fairly dark wood to begin with. Thanks!

Lightening the stock on a GPR

I have seen a couple of tips for doing this, but I am ready to tackle the project so I wanted to get a few more thoughts. My Lyman 54 cal GPR showed up with a VERY dark stock, and I want to lighten it up to see the grain better. What would be the best method for getting that done? Do I need to...

How's the OH late ML shaping up?

I was in Perry county for bow season. The weather was warm and we didn't see a lot of bucks. I know the first part of regular gun was not great weather as well. Do you guys in the buckeye state think we are looking at a good late ML in January? I will be up again to roam the hardwood ridges...

    Lyman GPR question

    Thanks guys. Good advice.

    Lyman GPR question

The GPR hammer has two positions: the first position is presumably the safety position which allows the hammer to be cocked a part of the way but the hammer does not drop when you pull the trigger. Then there is the fully cocked position that allows you to fire. The problem I ran into while...

    Would you be confident...

Well, I dropped the hammer at the end of a three day hunt (to unload) and got an instantaneous ignition. Replacement nipple, prudent use of a nipple pick, and pouring powder in the channel under the nipple after loading seems to be a pretty sure fire system, even with Pyrodex. In contrast, one...

    What's the attraction

So for you flint lock shooters (primarily directed to hunters) what is the attraction of the flintlock over the percussion? I own a percussion rifle and have been giving some thought to a flinter.
