CVA Squirrel gun stock too straight

I recently acquired a .32 percussion CVA Squirrel gun kit. I bought the kit from a friend who badly needed the cash and I needed a winter project. The kit had belonged to his Dad from "years ago" and Dad had started it by putting the buttplate on and then quit. As soon as I laid the barrel in...

    Second shot blues

Thanks to all. I think I was using too much BB and getting some cooked-on stuff. I tried swabbing with Hoppes and dry patches before the first shot and it seemed to solve the loading problem. Now I just need to decide which of the million or so recipes for protecting my bore I should start...

    Second shot blues

Somebody diagnose this for me. On my .36 Dixie Cub flinter I load a .350 ball with a .015 OxYoke pre-lubed patch. I clean with several to many patches with TC #13 bore cleaner, dry with several patches and leave the rifle with a generous amount of Bore-Butter. The first load after cleaning is...

    Frizzen dragging on barrel

The fix was to carefully file down the edge of the frizzen until it just cleared the lock. I still haven't diagnosed the problem. The patches I was using to wipe the bore were just barely damp so I don't think extra moisture was the cause. I think I'm just going to call it gremlins. Thanks...

    Frizzen dragging on barrel

Dixie Cub kit gun (Pedersoli) in .36 cal. I put it together and have shot it maybe 400 times. Today the frizzen started dragging against the barrel. Hmmm- checked frizzen screw for tightness, checked lock screws for tightness, checked barrel for tightness, generally checked to see if maybe a...

Damp, FITP, dry ball - what a great day!

Next time- and there will be one-- just work some 4F thru the touchhole, you can use a pick to help, you don't really need to remove the liner. It takes only 4-5 grains to get the ball out of the barrel. ----Not that I've ever done it of course.

    .36 or .40 ?

Thanks to all for your insights. I no longer own the .32, needed the cash for the step-up. And,btw, I tried, 3F and 2F Goex, 3F KIK, 3F Swiss and Pyrodex P (it was a caplock)and different patch thicknesses. I struggled with all of them. I suspect that the gun had more troubles than just...

    .36 or .40 ?

I'm looking at acquiring a smaller cal. flinter for bunnies, squirrels, plinking, targets, etc. I have, and use, .50s and .54s for big game and I didn't have much luck keeping a .32 shooting well after 3-4 shots. (I don't like cleaning guns that often). So. . . trying to decide between good...

Traditions Crockett Problem - On to Pedersoli?

I too have a Crockett that doesn't shoot well. Like you, I've tried pretty much every load/patch/ball combination. Also, I found it was tearing patches, even setting them on fire sometimes, so I gave the bore a rigorous scrubbing with 4-O steel wool to try to take off burrs. Didn't help much...

    buckhorn sight

I shoot a buckhorn on two different Pedersoli's and use it like a ghost ring peep. Its accurate enough that I win a shoot now and again and don't have any trouble killing deer. And, its quick and great in low light.

    a little ffffg thing

Your local Walmart has a section for"travel size" stuff. I found there a small plastic "bottle" (maybe 3 oz.) with a lid that screws off for filling and a flip up top that exposes a pour spout that is great for refilling priming flasks. Holds enough to refill my priming flasks several times.

    therifleshoppe?

I ordered a sear over the phone from therifleshoppe. I was told they had it in stock and it would be mailed out. That was about 3weeks ago and I haven't seen anything from them. I have tried to call at every time of day, every day they are open and have yet to get an answer- usually the...

    Ramrod for 1763 Charleville

Ok-in the spirit of Pvt.John Shields(Lewis and Clark's gunsmith): I took a 1/4"brass rod, soldered on a 1/4"by3/8"bronze bushing then on that soldered a 3/8"by1/2"flanged bronze bushing. Chucked up th whole thing in my drill press and turned it to the "right" shape with a file and emory cloth...
