Can anyone shed some light on a Kentucky style flintlock pistol I have. It is not a antique. The only markings anywhere on the gun is "ADLER ITALY". No proof marks or anything else. The gun is a 45 cal smooth bore and is of average quality. Lock sparks good and functions very well. Wood is of some hard wood simular to our walnut. Construction is of good quality. Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry, I can't help you.

It is curious that there are no proof marks on the barrel.
By law all of the blackpowder guns made in Italy must be proofed.

Perhaps the operative word is "made". If the gun was made elsewhere under contract with a "Adler" in Italy but not imported directly to Italy it might get around the proof laws?
