And you still can't weld or heat treat 12L14 steel. It can be cased and normalized, but not through- hardened. Assumptions are the mother of all buggar-ups, and there are a lot of erroneous assumptions being made on this thread by people who think they know a lot more than they really do.
 
Epoxies have been used for MANY applications with success. From airplanes to jets to rockets to every household appliance in use today. If you use the correct epoxy for the correct application, then there is no problem. Use it correctly and apply it per directed it will last a lifetime.
Depending on the fit of the vent liner I would have either used the JB weld or the Loctite in the OP situation using the vent liner that he made. I would have made the vent liner with a chamfer on the end like a white lightning vent liner and a mating chamfer in the barrel so that when screwed in it has a hard stop to shoulder up on. :thumb:
