A friend bought a Seneca and the nipple was cross threaded, threads are toast. What are his options? Can he go up to a regular Hawken size nipple or does he need to send it to a professional.

Is there enough metal in the nipple seat to bore a standard 1/4-28 tap hole and tap the new threads. There is a reason T/C used smaller threads in the Seneca and Cherokee rifles. A professional gun smith or journeyman machinist will be best to contact for an evaluation.

If the existing thread/nipple diameter is the same size or smaller than the tap drill size for a 1/4-28 thread, it can easily be re-drilled and tapped.

Tap drill size for a 1/4-28 thread is .214 inches.

Just watch your angles as you drill and tap, so the new nipple maintains alignment with the hammer.
