I know you can't shoot pellets from a rifle bore but is it posible to shoot a ball from a smooth bore. Wouldn't that be pretty much like a modern shotgun shooting a slug?

my smoothbore renegade shoots a .550 ball/.010 patch combo like a rifled barrel out to 50 yds.

Yes, you can shoot a ball out of a smoothbore.

I fire .600's all the time out of my 20 gauge.

I've shot maybe a thousand rounds of .690 ball out of my 12 ga. flint musket, and mabe a hunderd loads of birdshot.I just can't hit much with the ball, but that's probably my fault and not the gun's!

It usually goes like this cap to flint to smoothy. A smoothy loaded right will hold its own
to 75yds.

Im wondering does it matter what I shoot out of my uh barrel, its been sitting here a while since I had it made and dont remember if I got a 62 or 20g?? I was going to use the 600 or 615 ball 70 up to 100gr 2f. Got it for my kid to use as a shotgun when hes wandering around out back. Anyway I can call the barrel maker if it matters. thanks, Fred :hatsoff:

Not only is it possible, it's been a standard load for a few hundres years or more...

Why you can even shoot both buckshot and roundball at the same time... (buck and ball loads)

Please visit our smoothbore section and you will see many roundball loads for smoothbores...

Kindalike but better. You have more flexibility. Check out what Bob Spencer has to say on the topic here:

For you longtime users of Bob's site, notice that he is changing URLs as he moves to a new host.

.62 cal and 20Guage are essentially the same caliber, though there appears to be some differences in ID between makers. You may need to try both ball sizes with different patches to see what it likes...

Thanks for the info guys. I saw someone post stating he was looking at both so I had to ask if one could be used for both types of shooting. I was thinking that there was no need for a smooth bore but now maybe I just need to get one of those also.

If I don't stop buying guns soon I'm going to get in a lot of trouble with the wife.
