For Sale in time for the fall deer season: A .45 caliber full stock flintlock rifle with a 42" browned Don Getz barrel, SN #10350, 1:56 twist rate, swamped B profile (same as Colerain B), perhaps dating to the early to mid 1980s based on serial number, but certainly within the Don Getz era. Barrel rifling is crisp and sharp, well cared for, and not showing any wear. While not verifiable, and taking into account other components, I suspect the rifle has only been fired a few times, if even fired at all.
This rifle weighs a svelte 8lbs, and would be a joy to carry in the woods, or to handle while target shooting. The rifle mounts easily and naturally comes up to point of aim with the balance point on the rifle just at the rear sight. The rear sight is dovetail mounted 10" in front of the breech, with a nickel silver front sight mounted in brass dovetail mount. The overall length of the rifle is 57"
The full length stock is lightly figured and stained maple, understated and not distracting from the overall appearance of the rifle. Wood to metal fit in the barrel channel and overall for all metalwork is excellent.
The stock cheek is inlet with a nice brass 8 point hunters star, along with nice wood engraving forward of the butt plate. The plain patchbox has a button release on the bottom of the toe piece which operates as designed. The stock wrist has a small brass medallion inset on the top which is not engraved.
The rifle has dual triggers with a rear set, and a large Siler lock. The lock pan does now show any wear or corrosion, with the frizzen showing only some light use from recent testing of the lock operation. The barrel has a stainless touch hole insert located in the correct position with respect to the pan. The lock has a new flint installed, and the rifle comes with 11 additional TOTW English flints.
The brass trigger guard is not engraved. The lock plate has some light engraving surrounding the retention screws. The length of pull is 13.5" to the front trigger, for an average to smaller size shooter.
This rifle comes with a second threaded (10-32) brass tipped ramrod, or wiping stick, cut about 2" longer than the original for ease of use. The second ramrod has been sanded to fit the existing thimbles and is stained, and thus could easily be exchanged with the original if desired for hunting or shooting.
