Dear friends and comrades:
The UTA would like to announce a Grand Raffle to benefit a project to restore the two 1760 Strasbourg cannons which our unit used from 1778 to 1842. These guns served in the Battle of RI in 1778, saw state service in 1812, and were a central part of the drama of the Dorrite Rebellion of 1842. The guns were severely vandalized in 1981(they were chopped up into pieces and deposited in a pond) and only recovered in 1994. The UTA has teamed up with the Federal Blues of Warren, RI (a 501c3 organization) to undertake the restoration effort. CannonsOnline will perform the restoration work. Since July of 2004, we have raised $8,700 in cash with another $2,600 pledged for 2005 toward our goal of $34,000.
The drawing will take place in October, 2005. The Grand Prize is a 1640s Spanish grenade mortar (donated by cannons online). Other prizes include a flintlock pistol with presentation case, two books signed and donated by James L. Nelson, a book signed by Jerome Greene, fencing lessons etc.). Attached is a ticket order form with more details. We would be most grateful if you would share this form with your companies. The form is a rich text format so if you cannot open it, let me know and we'll try something else. Tickets are $2 apiece or a book of six for $10. Checks can be made payable to The Federal Blues and mailed to me at 76 Belvidere Blvd., N. Prov., RI 02911. We'll fill out the tickets and send you the receipt. Thank you for your support and consideration.
Sincerely,
Joe Giammarco, Esq. Lt.,
