Here's a Semi-Newbie question.... been searching the web like mad can't get a result, Can't call Tow or Dixie because it's to late... but frustrated. Recently purchased a Pedersoli .36 Frontier percussion, unfired, but lacking drum and nipple. Got them in the mail today from Dixe but it seems the Nipple is quite long and Narrow, a #10/11 cap fits perfectly. Shouldn't this be using a "Musket" Cap? I have a feeling I'll get a faster answer here and sleep better, My other Percs, an Enfield and Richmond Rifle... take the Musket Cap as they should.

Would appreciate any help, Thanks in advance.

No, a #11 would be normal and sometimes a 10 would fit better. Caps and nipples are not exactly the same. Some smaller or larger and some have more taper than others.

The musket caps are for the military type long guns, both rifled and smoothbore muskets.

All of the other percussion guns including the military revolvers use the smaller #10 or #11 caps including civilian shotguns.

In the used gun market occasionally a non-military rifle will be found that has a musket size nipple on it but it was installed by some previous owner, not the factory.
