i didn't have a picture on my iPad of my horn, so I took a screen shot from another forum. I started at thread and it's my image, hope that's ok...

I used on this particular horn fieblings brown leather dye. I used several coats. I heated the horn up and rubbed it back between each coat with 0000 steel wool. The base plug is walnut and I used the same method for that as well.

The top horn is an original that was my Great Grandpas, I redone the base plug so I could use it. The one on the bottom has no stain and is naturally dirty I made it a few years back. The last two horns have a cool story, the top smaller one was the first one I made many years ago, the one on the bottom I made for my wife, neither horn had any stain... I’ve made around 100 horns, none of which are super fancy, but I like them anyhow.I think I’m retireing from it.... for now.

I made the one above for my dad on Father’s Day, I didn’t care for the red stain, but dad loved it!

Great work. I've always wanted a Southern Banded horn, like Mel Gibson's horn in The Patriot.

I’ve never made one of those, but always wanted to try.... those are challenging horns to make indeed! I’m sure I could do it, but am very busy right now. Maybe when things slow down a bit....
