Great thread here. I too used to own one of the old Zouaves'. 1971 I think. Mine too shot better with PRB. I never knew why, until I heard that 1-72 twist. That answers that question.
I now shoot a Euro Arms 2-band Enfield. It likes the .577 minies better than the .575. The minies don't like charges heavier than 75 grains of FFG. Like all the Civil War type firearms, the front sights are set for 75-yards. I also found that if using thin skirt minies that the lighter bullets and smaller powder charges are more accurate at 25 and 50 yards. I settled for using the standard original-type minie and adjusting my powder charges for 25.50,75 yards etc. Rick.
