Marking horn with pen

Hi. I am having issues with my pattern rubbing off the horn before I can scratch the art.
Never made a hone but working on one. I picked up from the track of the wolf. Plan to use the state north star and then the rivers and trails to the mountains from he sea.
All help or what videos to watch would be very much appreciated.

Trace a part of the pattern then scratch it in. Do another part and scratch it in. Continue till you have it all.

Draw the pattern in full. Spray it with hair spray and let dry. Etch through the film. It also slows down the ink from bleeding.
Steel wool when you are finished.
