Not sure really what style to call it, but for simplicity I have for sale a large percussion pistol. No maker's marks on barrel, stock or lock.
Lots of evidence the gun was once well-loved and saw lots of use, but age and neglect have reduced it to status as a relic.
Gun is overall 17-inches, with an 11.5 inch barrel. Brass furniture including a decorative entry pipe and butt cap. Appears to be stocked in walnut with a horn end cap under the muzzle. Ramrod tip is also horn.
Pistol looks to be built from a mix of rifle parts, with the barrel cut down and a large lock with some visible file marks. Lock may be an 1840-1880 original -internals and hammer look like a Golcher, or a close copy, and there is no fly fitted. Barrel has a second unused hole through the tang behind the breech plug, likely from it's previous life as something else. Barrel has been filed down from octagon to round on the top only. Bore is heavily pitted and may have been a 54 or 58 smoothbore. Despite some heavy carbon, the nipple turns out easily.
This is for your collection of curiosities, a decor item or a parts donor. I do not believe the barrel is in shootable condition, nor could it be made so without relining to a smaller caliber.
Asking $170 shipped in the USA. Certainly open to discussing a fair value for this...PM for details.
