I'd sure like to replicate this.

Anyone know who this used to belong to?

I don't know who the pictured rifle belonged to, either.

But if you wanted to make a close copy, you could start with Track's Leman kit.

All you would need to do is shorten the barrel by 6" or 8".

Track's Leman kit is very authentic. The trigger guard and butt plate are right on.

The blue prints or plans they sell for the Leman rifle is also very good and the photo of the finished rifle on the plans is one of Jack Brooks Leman Indian rifles.

I would just point out, having built and trading off Tracks Leman in .54x1x35 barrel, that knife edged butt plate leaves you in no doubt that the gun was shot.

Well, no one wins the prize, that rifle belonged to Chief Josepth of the Nez Perz. I saw it in person at their museum this summer. I'm a big Chief Joe fan, and he rests not too far from my home. Thanks for the tip, I believe I will replicate it. The original is in .45 caliber, so I won't worry too much about the pointy butt plate.

What kind of kit, or what skill level is that kit? Semi inletted, fully inletted? etc.?

Thanks, Rat.

The fore stock is big and square. The drop and wrist and butt stock are all cut to about 1/2 an inch above. You have to square the back of the breech cut the dovetails and do final fit to the lock. The butt is about 90% cut. You have to inlet the pipes. All in all about 150-200 hours, hours that go by way too fast
