Hey everyone,
I’m really excited to be here and I’m glad that I finally found a forum that is completely based on our interest, and not just a part of another forum. I can’t wait to talk to you guys and buy and sell and trade my favorite part of the gun world, and what has become for me, like everyone else here, the best hobby I’ve ever found. My favorites have always been the open top Colts. And I couldn’t get over the fact that there were conversions to cartridges from my favorite looking guns. The 1873 though quite popular and classic, always comes second for me to the older colts. Mainly because I think they are a lot prettier and you were able to load a full cylinder and rest the hammer on the safety night between chambers. Recently, having my pietta 1860 fitted with the Kirst, and I have found myself interchanging parts with my 1851, brass 44. Not the cylinder obviously, but the barrels a 5 inch Navy barrel the long navy barrel in the 1860 8 inch. I have change the grip frames and the barrels interchangeably between the 2 guns to try and find which balance I like the best. I did not like how the 1860 felt stock. When I shot it, it was not as accurate as the navy, but I can tell immediately that the navy grips those smaller and I have big hands by the way, feel much better and I am able to control the gun better the navy grip with the 1860 barrel has a nice tone to it, and obviously the long navy barrel, but I am really on the line about the navy grips with the 1860 barrel. Next time I go to the range that’s how she’s going to be taken. I have acquired a few muzzleloaders one being a 50 Cal, CVA, Hawken, and a oddball that I believe someone either refinished or might’ve been a kit it’s 45 and has like a leopard print would pattern on the stock very pretty and also has some brass tacks somebody put in there in a little arrow, inlay. She’s at the gunsmith now as there is a ball still in there, and I wanted to make sure that it would be safe to shoot. Anyway, happy to be here very excited and hope that I can find some meet ups to go to. Thanks all!
