I just finished a powder horn. I am working on a plug for the spout end of it. I have seen some with a metal "shaft" (that goes in the hole) on a wood or antler knob. I have seen some where the knob and plug are one piece and from wood. Yet another is a solid brass piece. What are the pros and cons of each plug material and style, and what other options may I be overlooking?

Thanks

I'll concur with Ames. I, in my old age fell while hunting a while back. No harm was done. I simply tripped over a root, but in the process I broke the plug for my powder horn. Luckily it was wood and somewhat thin where it goes into the horn and the plug was the only thing damaged other than my ego. If it had been a medal plug it, in all likelihood would have damaged the horn.
