I'm from western Pa., and have been hunting with a flintlock since the mid 80's. My first flintlock was a CVA pistol kit. I never hunted with it but it was fun to shoot. For hunting I put together a TC hawken kit, and have been hunting with it ever since. After I was done with it, I really didn't want to take it to the woods to get beat up, but after the first nick or scratch I didn't worry about it anymore.
I now have got the urge to put together a custom flintlock. That is, as soon as I have the money for it.
There appears to be a lot of knowledgeable people here, and I have already learned from just reading some of the posts.
