I finally got to watch my Bluray DVD and it appears to be a 1860 Colt.

Anyhow there was another gun switch, when Gus leaves the ravine and is using a rifle for a crutch.

speakin' of cinematic goofs-while lonesome dove is one of my all time favorite movies it's always bothered me that an experienced buffalo hunter can't hit gus at a few hundred yards with a sharps but gus cranks up the sight on his puny henry and plugs him. go figger.

He couldn't afford a Sharps with a scope he stole it from someone.....................watch yer top knot................
