Update:

I finally found time to drill the touch hole. Put masking tape on the barrel and made marks indicating the face of the breach plug, front and back edges of the pan and top of the pan. Drilled a 1/16" hole at the middle of the pan front to back and about at the top edge of the pan.

Added 80 grains of 3f black powder to the barrel, a .010 thick cotton patch lubed with bore butter and a .648 lead round ball. Strapped it down and set it off with cannon fuse. Went bang just at it should.

Then reassembled the gun, added 80 grains of 3f black powder followed by a paper wad, primed the pan with 4f black powder and she went off just as it should.

I guess I have something that I can use for reenacting at least.

Thanks to everyone for their information and insight.

Of course now comes the fun part, take it all apart and clean everything!!
