I have this recently made Italian zouave musket and the brass fore end cap fell off, the barrel bands are very loose and the fore-end just falls off, looks like previous owner glued the fore end to the barrel with some furniture/wood glue, and left the barrel bands sloppy.

Is there a better way to hold the fore end to the barrel or is glue the way it's usually done ?

the barrel bands are not really going to clamp any more so I was going to shim with tape and glue them to the barrel too, and glue end cap to the fore end... epoxy ??

is there a better way to reassemble the gun ?

The band springs hold the bands to the fore stock. The nose cap may have had a screw going from inside the barrel channel through the wood and into the nose cap. No glue is used by the manufacturers. Brand? some photos?

You say the fore end fell off and had been glued to the barrel. Are you referring to the wood itself as in a 2 piece stock?
