The other day, I was shooting my .50 Renegade and the nipple blew out, stripping out the threads. When I bought the gun used, the nipple threads were not in the best shape, so I think it was just a matter of time. Fortunately, the hammer caught the nipple instead of my face. Anyway, I need to fix the thing and it seems that getting a new breech plug would be the way to go. It looks like this might be the right part: http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Cate...14&subId=143&styleId=520&partNum=PLUG-TC-15-5
How do I get the old plug out? Thanks. Doug

Nope, sorry that's not the fix.
The Breech you linked too is like a T/C plug in that when fitted to a barrel that has 5/8x18 thread the hook will line up as well as the lock space and nipple. And Nobody sells T/C threaded plugs (patent)

T/C uses it's own prioritized thread, so the 5/8x18 will not fit. :idunno:

Good News Is;
Blown nipple threads is one of the things that T/C will fix under their warrenty.
Had one just a few years back that had that trouble, I contacted T/C,, sent the barrel in and got it back with a new breech installed.
IRRC turn over was about 6 weeks.

Other option is OverSize nipples. Track has several sizes,, requires tapping the hole with the new and proper size threads before using the nipple. (also avaiable at TOW, cruise the site a bit or call'm). http://www.trackofthewolf.com/(S(wb2nttfs2dog2j2xtn5ri52m))/Search.aspx?Search=ROS-05-i

Getting the new breech installed for the cost of shipping the barrl was the option I chose.

Even if you have the exact breech plug you would stand a better than average chance of screwing up the barrel getting the thing out. Those plugs are extremely tight fits. I purchased a TC barrel once for a project I was doing and eventually ended up cutting the barrel off in front of the plug and re-breeched it. If it were mine I would send it to TC and let them do their magic on it.

T/C has its own weird thread size. I believe the 11/16-20 x 1" plug is the correct one for your renegade. Maybe some of these T/C experts will verify that.

Still, if you can get it fixed with the T/C lifetime warrentee, seems like a no-brainer to me. Bill

Why would they say it's made for a T/C,,,
They don't say that, this is what they say;
Make a new barrel assembly for your Thompson Center Hawken, or similar imported Hawken rifle. Our hook matches your tang,
:idunno: It's so folks can put a different barrel as a drop-in for a T/C. With some minor modification the same plug can be used for Investarms and Cabelas rifles.

They also say Thompson doesn't sell their breech plug.

T/C said that it would take 10 weeks or more so I think I'll just find a local gunsmith.

In that case, maybe your best bet would be to suggest to your gunsmith to just re-tap for an over-sized nipple. I did it once many years ago when I blew out a 1/4-28 nipple, but I don't remember the size I replaced it with. But it worked fine and was the easiest fix. Bill

Well, if your hunting season is over with, what plans do you have for the gun while it is being repaired? Just me, but I would use my life time warranty on that barrel.

I had a nipple blow out a couple yars ago and just ordered a .005 oversized nipple from TOW. Nice snug fit. No problem since.
