The Walker was essentially a prototype. It didn't take long to figure out it was kinda big, so subsequent pistols, after the run of Walkers, were downsized.

Like others have stated , the Dragoon is a refined Walker.

Colt refined the Walker into what we call the Dragoon. Colt even went through refinement with the Dragoons. That is why collectors have created Dragoon model names
Like Model 1, 2, and 3 for the Dragoon. Basically the major steps in Dragoon refinement Colt went through.
