Blondie is my refinished Allen FA Santa Fe Hawken and, in my hands, we got her first buck this morning.
It was a good hunt, shot a nice eater hog the evening before and my brother got his best buck ever about an hour after I shot mine this morning.
.520 round ball with .012" patch and TOW mink oil lube over 75 gr Goex 3F resulted in a complete pass through just behind and slightly above the front left elbow, square broadside from a ground blind.
The tick toter ran a good 60-70 yards the after shot, in the opposite direction I thought it would go, with no blood to trail from where it was standing and only a few puffs of white hair on the ground.
Blondie had me worried for a while as I searched in the wrong direction but once I came to my senses, a faint but follow-able blood trail was picked up about 30 yards from where the deer was standing and then the work began... the work that leads to tasty venison in the freezer.
