Is there an after market trigger spring for the Lyman Plains Pistol to quicken the hammer fall?
Just got a new .54 today and the hammer fall seems a bit weak. thanks for any input.

Before you get too far into trying to buy another spring, remove your lock from the gun and give it a good soaking with some automotive Disk Brake Cleaner. Pay special attention to getting it into the area under the hammer.

This stuff will dissolve any hardened grease that is down in the "works".

After it has dried, heavily lubricate the entire lock with a good grade of gun oil. Rem-Oil comes to mind. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=161667
After lubricating the lock, wipe the oil off of all exposed surfaces and reinstall it back into the gun.

If after lubricating the lock it is still sluggish
you can remove the mainspring and install a very short spacer under it. The spacer can be made of metal or wood but remember to keep it short.
A little extra compression can make quite a large difference with a coil spring.

Thanks for reply. pistol is new I took it apart and lubed inside with light grease to protect parts already. Just seems a little sluggish. Think I will run some balls down its throat before doing anything. Just thought an aftermarket spring might be what guys are doing to crisp up trigger. Am used to a double set so it does feel a lot diff.

What Zonie was suggesting was to clean the grease the manufacturer uses, sometimes it's gummy and slows everything down! Kinda like walking in tar.

Clean it really good and also check the lock mortice to make sure none of the workings are dragging on wood. When I got my .54 PP it had a lot of grease and wood shavings in the lock. It was sluggish like yours. After a thorough cleaning it was slick as snot.

I need to tear it down and do the cleanup. Everyone seems to be together on that one. Will do. thanks shooters.
